What’s up Texas? The Houston area TOs are happy to announce that we have joined forces under the name Smash United to bring you bigger and better tournaments than ever before! Smash at the Dojo, West Houston Smash, Greensleeves, and Smash Fight Club are all combining for a smash brothers experience we hope that you will come to expect as the new standard in Houston. Although we think this tournament is going to be a great one, consider it the tip of the iceberg for the things we have in store for you.
IMPORTANT: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST PRE-REGISTER ONLINE, INCLUDING PAYMENT. THIS IS ESSENTIAL BECAUSE THE SCHEDULE WILL BE MADE IN ADVANCE. REGISTER AT www.tinyurl.com/battlegrounds1
This tournament will run the following events:
Melee Singles ($10, 128 entrants maximum)
Melee Doubles ($10/teammate, 32 teams maximum)
PM Singles ($10, 64 entrants maximum)
Sm4sh Singles ($10, 128 entrants maximum)
Sm4sh Doubles ($10/teammate, 32 teams maximum)
Venue Fee: $10. This is primarily for fundraising purposes for both Smash United and the Smash Club at UH. This will allow us to get better streaming equipment for all of us to use as well as prepare for hosting bigger regional sized tournaments off of campus in the future.
We will give a FULL REFUND to any full setups up to the number that we need. These setups must include a CRT or monitor, console, and game. If that setup is for Smash Wii U, it must include all DLC. Bringing just a console & game or monitor can get you a partial refund ($5). Please note these refunds are on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis and we will only give out refunds equal to the setups we still need. Project M does not currently need anymore setups than what we already have. Melee and Smash Wii U still do.
PLEASE bring setups regardless as we will have an ADDITIONAL ROOM for any setups not being used in the tournament for everyone to play friendlies in! Although we cannot issue refunds for these, it will only serve to make your tournament experience that much more enjoyable! Volunteers will be outside to take your setups inside for you.

THERE ARE ALSO ENTRY CAPS FOR EACH EVENT NOTED ABOVE, AND WHEN THAT NUMBER OF ENTRANTS HAS BEEN MET, WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYMORE. WE WILL ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS, AND ANY VOLUNTEERS ARE ASKED TO ONLY SIGN UP FOR ONE (1) EVENT!
Registration will end the Sunday before the tournament, so make sure you register promptly. There will also be a FREE RIVALS OF AETHER BRACKET with a CASH PRIZE for the winner for the FIRST 32 ENTRANTS that opt into it. Combined with the entry caps, all the more reason to get signed up quickly!

We will be doing round robin pools during the morning waves, and the top entrants from each pool will advance into a bracket in the afternoon. The amount of entrants advancing from each pool as well as the payout structure will depend on the number of entrants in an event.
<32 entrants: Pools cut to Top 8
Payout for Top 3: 60/30/10
32-96 entrants: Pools cut to Top 16
Payout for Top 4 at 32-64 players: 55/25/15/5
97-128 entrants: Pools cut to Top 32
Payout for Top 6 at 65-128 players: 50/20/12.5/7.5/5/5
A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
8:30 AM: Check-in and registration begin
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Wave 1 of pools
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch break (important for those signed up in two events)
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Wave 2 of pools
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Begin brackets, stream finals for teams
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Melee Top 8, PM Top 8
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Sm4sh Top 8

PARKING: The parking lots that you will be using will be marked on the campus map. Parking is free on weekends. All smashers are asked to park in lots 18A or 19B outside the Classroom and Business Building. Again, volunteers will be available to help move setups inside.
