Smash...token...thing

After watching the DK and Pit SE videos, I noticed a new item. It looked like the Smash Emblem in the form of a coin.

In one vid, DK picked it up and a collectible trophy came out.

I think I might've seen an actual item came out of one of those...

What do you guys think?

It looked to me like he grabbed the token, threw it at the koopa, and it became a koopa trophy. Maybe it's an item that you can throw at things to turn them into trophies?
