So, when I saw people play Smash Run on Youtube, I saw a lot of the same thing happening: Running away from stronger monsters. Now, if this was me playing Smash Run I would go straight for anything that comes my way and not care.

After that, it got me thinking: "How will others play Smash Run?" so this is what this thread is about. When you play Smash Run, how will you go about getting power ups, fighting enemies, dealing with other players, etc.

I'm just going to fight whatever comes towards me to be honest. Besides you only have 5 minutes to go looking for powerups so you might as well fight the bigger enemies. I don't think there's a big penalty for being Ko'd anyways. (Just a power up reduction)

Going to sort of prioritize how I did with Air Ride, trying to get to things such as special rooms for hordes of power-ups, but killing anything that may wield a good amount of power-us. I'm not going to go for weak things that'll give me like one tiny power-up worth like a point, instead focusing on bigger monsters. I'm also going to try and find out how the characters I play can use the map to their advantage, such as focusing on a specific area or finding specific monsters. I'm also going to try and use things such as Bullet Bill Frenzies (or whatever they're called) to my advantage instead of run away, but I'll need to find out how to take them down without taking a crap ton of damage or getting bombarded. I'll mostly be finding a game plan once I can actually get my hands on the game.

I'll probably end up fighting powerful enemies unless I'm running out of time, or I stink at this version. Or I just don't want to fight some of those enemies. Like if they put in ReDeads. I've had enough of them in Ocarina, Wind Waker, and Melee (If I remember correctly), thank you very much.

I can confirm to you that Redeads are indeed in the game.

Play as Sonic, run around untill I find something that'll reward me with epic powerups. Anything in my way dies.

I expect to spend the first minute or two fighting weaker enemies while trying to find hidden doors (assuming its random which locations have them each time). After getting to a decent power level, I'll likely try to use the random event to my advantage while hunting for stronger foes and more treasure chests/doors. I think this strategy should lead to at least decent end game stats and lots of trophies, custom moves, and custom parts.

Treat it like the Underground Maze, run through, kill everything, get powerups. Assuming it's possible to interact with other players, I may spend some runs just trolling my friends.

My strategy? Use up-close fighters. I'll mostly use characters like Little Mac and Robin in Smash Run. When I use a character like Megaman I'll defiantly equip them with a beam sword or so.
Also, Sonic might be pretty useful...

WHY

ugh i don't know if i can play smash run anymore
Don't be disheartened, there are more platforms and places to run. If you need to, run or weaken them with an item or special ability. There are more ways to deal with those sons of guns.

Game is not out yet, so this seems moot as of now, but if I have powerups that act as trails (follow the powerups!), I'd probably look for offense, damage, and mobility ones while KOing everything in my way - this would let me rack KOs far more efficiently, especially if it's a 1v1. However, if I know my opponents I'm playing with are better than me (by any decent amount, where I can't consistently remove games from them), defense defense defense - I'll turtle up and trade all day (damage output boosts to stuff is nice, but I'd rather tank to 200% than pray I can land 3 combos). I'd also grab mobility if the stage we're going to is large (if we know in advance) to better run away and shoot any projectiles I have.

At least once though, I'll just pick the character with the highest natural jumps and look for nothing but jumping power, just so I can fullhop to the top blastline during the match for effortless vertical followups (and laugh at how high the character is jumping).

My Strategy= Use Long-Ranged Characters, and keep a safe distance using them (Mega Man, Rosalina and Luma, etc.) or Use Close-Up Characters who deal lots of damage up-close (Little Mac, Bowser etc.)

Good recovery is also important, since you can fall to your dooom.

The primary reason people run from "stronger enemies" is because they take too long to kill.

You only have 5 minutes to power up your character, and you want to be stacked with tons of buffs when you reach the end.

So your choice becomes "Do I sit here and dedicate time to fighting this big/annoying enemy that is just eating hits for a big pay-off? Or do I run around killing smaller things to get more power-ups quicker?"

You also need to take into account the bonus rooms, as having more time allows you to visit more of those rooms.

So the 'run away' tactic serves a purpose, as Smash Run is really about the end being ridiculous. So the choice is really about how you want to spend the journey.

It also really depends on the character. I mean, when I played the demo at NWS, I was Luigi, and he was awful for fighting some stronger monsters. I didn't feel like I was making a dent, and I was wasting my time fighting the same thing, instead of experiencing everything it had to offer. So I started off "attacking everything" then reverted to "run away if it takes too long" simply because there was no time.

So it really depends. Everything is a viable strategy, depending on what you want out of the situation, but it may come down to the character too.

I see a lot of people saying sonic, and while I agree he seems great for this, it also seems that smash run will have a lot of vertical mobility needed in parts of it. Now, you might be able to ignore those parts and run with Sonic anyways, but characters like jigglypuff and kirby with great air mobility will have their advantages as well.

Characters with hard hitting attacks, or attacks with large hitboxes will also be useful for clearing out multiple enemies at a time, and faster, as well as that break the crystals minigame.

So as long as you play to your character's strengths, you should be ok. I personally want to play as Charizard. He has a decent speed run, has pretty good aerial mobility and 3 jumps, and has some decent hitboxes and powerful attacks, most notably rock smash, which was known for killing bosses in Brawl. He seems like a great all around option for smash run.

Really, I'll adjust my attack patterns to who I'm playing as.

If I'm playing Ness, I'll use PK Fire and PK Thunder to stun enemies, then run in for the KO.

If I'm playing as King Dedede, I'll use my range to safely poke at the enemies.

My strategy? I think if this works I'll go with it.

I'll kill what I can, but focus on finding the challenge doors with things such as break the targets that seem to net a good amount of power ups all at once. After 2-3 minutes of that, start killing everything in sight since I'll hopefully have enough to start taking the stronger enemies more easily.

I used to think like you. Then I played the demo.

A lot of these enemies are TOUGH. They have way more health than those in SSE or Melee's Adventure mode. If you get coaght up in a ton of enemies, they will have their way with you. Doubly so if you are a character like Megaman or Villager who doesn't do well when the foe is in their face.

I can see heavy characters with large melee range (Ike, Donkey Kong, Ike, and more Ike) doing well in Smash Run.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely take this into consideration. I'll probably be playing a lot of Bowser and maybe Little Mac to get around fast and deal powerful damage.

My strategy varies depending on what characters I'm playing, so here we go:

Light (Ex: Greninja, Fox, ZSS) - Try to find challenge doors as quick as possible. After, run around and defeat medium-sized enemies. Around 1 minute left, find the nearest player to me using the map and KO them. Be sure to grab as many Special, Strength, and Defense powerups as possible.

Balance (Ex: Mario, Lucario, Pac-Man) - Use items to defeat large enemies, and don't approach Challenge Doors. Be sure to grab as many Arms, Defense, and Strength powerups as possible. If there happens to be another player nearby, KO them.

Heavy (Ex: Bowser, DK, King Dedede) - Defeat large enemies without using items, and then take on Challenge Doors. Be sure to grab as many Defense, Speed, and Strength powerups as possible. If there happens to be another player nearby, KO them.

Special (Ex: Mega Man, Robin, Palutena) - Try to find challenge doors immediately. Run around and grab as many chests as possible. Then, defeat larger, more singled out enemies. Be sure to grab as many Special, Speed, and Agility Powerups as possible. Try to KO another player as soon as you think you are buffed up enough.

Swords (Ex: Link, Ike, Marth) - Try to find challenge doors immediately. Then, defeat hordes of medium/small enemies. Try to grab chests if possible. Be sure to grab as many Special and Strength powerups as possible. Try to KO another player as soon as you think you are buffed up enough.

As for characters I'll be playing, It'll probably just be random.

^ This.

I will mainly be using Little Mac and Bowser, even though Little Mac's recovery is horrible.

Little Mac - Will be equipped with the Rocket Jump Item to save me from falling off. Little Mac's attacks will make quick work of Smash Run Enemies.

Bowser - His Super Armor and devastating attacks is what makes him formidable to me. He will be equipped with the Ray Gun so he can hit projectile based enemies from afar.

Perhaps their reasoning was, "If I take out the smaller weaker enemies and powerup, then I can battle a tough enemy without taking to much damage and dying."

My strategy is, "Go into battle attacking everything, if the strategy isn't effective then change it up and powerup on the weak ones." :)

Well, I mean they hit the stronger monsters and then ran away before they could even finish them off.

Ah, well perhaps they wanted to leave it so it would be strong enough to challenge them someday! and explore other areas.
