There have been threads about AI and online game play floating around and it just hit me when I finally looked at VRO's thread.

He brought up getting the Pro's together and using their play styles and techniques to program the AI so that it will be more realistic and such. The best possible solution, since the WII can download files and has the internet capability, would be to have character ghosts.

In the PSP game Tekken DR this is exactly what it has. You can't play other people online head to head but you can download their ghost files that are updated after every match to truly reflect how you fight. This is pretty cool because you could download a L0zr pack for FOX, or a Bomb Soldier pack, or a pack from anyone out there.

While they would have to work this out, it would be a great idea for improving the character AI and a great alternative to Online play if that proves to be too much.

I truly wish for head to head for it is easily possible, it has been done many times in fighting games and a rank structure would be even better. I just can't wait for it to come out, it will be too good.

And Que responses NOW!!

I'd love to fight my own ghost. I wonder who would win.
I've got $5.00 on you.

Ghosts are a kickass idea. I have no idea how in the world the game could handle all the nuances of the game though, it'd probably be a royal pain in the a$$ to code. I bet Nintendo could handle it if they had enough time. How long has Brawl been in development?

Fact is - The Wii isn't powerful enough to actually have a definitive more advanced AI.

The AI will be better obviously, but not so much that we will notice a huge difference.

Now, if it was on the 360...

I reckon a above average Smasher could go through the VH mode or take out a level 9 computer on their first go.

you can't download someone's creativity and analytical thinking.

in other games, you can download someone's moves, and regularity of moves but smash is soo much different than that.

The Wii will never be a 360 or PS3, but there's still a lot they can do with the A.I. Heavily doubt 'learning' CPUs' is logical even for the other systems, even then it'd still be imperfect because it's still a computer. More likely, is the basic patching up and building up they'll be doing.

Imagine every developer comes to the table with a list of all these little bugs and weaknesses the CPUs have, they're known for their Melee records and by now know the pratfalls of the computer players. Even one person going down a long list can improve the game enough to say 'Hey, they're not as stupid' and patch up the major glitches. A large enough staff can easily kick them up a notch, within the limits of the game design schedule and the system's power.

The path to improving something isn't a one-sided street. You can't just build on your strengths, by repairing your flaws as you go success becomes more of a probability than a roulette game.

Imagine you're running a restaurant. Let's say you work on one dish over all others, a dish to get you into the magazines, this meal IS your restaurant. However, everything else is overpriced, small, tasteless, and quality control is nonexistent. You got your magazine feature on your meal, but the critics tear your place apart and even the casual diners abandon it for the quality.

Meanwhile, the guys next store don't have a meal on the magazine cover. Yet no one ever has a bad meal to complain about, everything is served hot and fast, the prices are good, even the staff is friendly enough and the employees are happy. Critics write it up as the place to be, eat there on their own time, and the casual diners swear by it.

The magazine cover meal-Out-there experiment features they're banking t he game on

Thanks for quoting me! =D Playing a ghost is a great way to practice, especially for a CPU. However, a player will have the ability to evolve, adapt, and learn DURING the match. Yes, it definitely will be different if ghosts are implemented and online play is implemented. But, different stuff, apples and oranges.

Oh, and please have a ranking system in brawl! I want a system similar to chess system (forgot what it's called). They should pair you up blindly against someone around your rating. If you lost to someone with a much higher rating, nothing too drastic is lost on your part, but if you beat someone with a much higher rating, you gain a ton of points... sounds like i need to make a new post =O

I dunno, I'm pretty bad, I don't know if I would win. I mean I'm pretty good, I would probably kick my *** (I have to stop now before I make this thing 10 paragraphs long)

This is a great idea. Now all of those who spam cheap attacks can get a taste of their own medicine!

On the topic of the Wii not having the power to pull off the advanced AI, We will have to discuss this. I have heard many things on the Wii's power and you can look up the "It's twice as powerful as the original XBOX" that a Wii hardware manufacturer stated a while back and then you can pull the counter argument out of OXM where they go over the death of the original XBOX "We never peaked the XBOX before it died." When you look at it should at least be able to match the XBOX1's capabilties.

The Wii is more than powerful enough to handle the higher level AI, it all comes down to how you will allocate the resources and run the code(though I am no programmer I do understand that the code is something that can be twisted in many different ways to achieve the same effect, some more processor intensive than others). The graphics of SSBB look good enough, but don't seem to be taking full advantage of the hardware if the wii is supposed to be better than the XBOX1 which turned out Ninja Gaiden Black and Riddick. There must be some room left over for something unless they aren't doing their best.

I am getting off topic here, it basically boils down to this, if the PSP can do it, I am pretty sure the Wii can do. Yea there are a lot of intricate detail in SSBM and even more so in SSBB but if you play the game you know that everyone has their play style and if you are astute you can tell who is who in a match without even looking at the tag if you know their style well enough. I believe that after playing the game through the 1000+ times to unlock everything the Wii will have more than enough data to accurately represent the person. Will it be the same as sitting beside them? No. But it will more than suffice for us for us who are out in the country and can't make daily trips into town to just play a video game for a couple hours.

P.S. Let's hope that this chatter is mostly in vain and that we will get the ONLINE ENABLED update tomorrow.

Or else I just want a publicized L0zr to play against endlessly lol.
