Hey guys,
Tsage here, New England smash player.
I've been helping one of my friends work with a major movie theater chain which is seriously considering bringing gaming into movie theaters. They want to show eSports tournaments, allow people to play on the screens, and set up really big events for the gaming community. I think it'd be pretty awesome if we could use a venue like this every once in a while, as well as the fact that I think it could help grow the scene. The theater is testing the waters right now with a survey, and if they get enough positive responses is planning to try it out!

If you're at all interested give the survey a run (should be about 10 minutes)--I'm really hoping this comes to some fruition. There's also a $100 gift card up for grabs if you're interested in that.
Thanks guys!

Not to bring anything down with this opinion. In my area I have happen to see a preview that one of my theaters were presenting league of legends. I see the idea where we can somewhat have a party in there and meet fellow gamers but... Isnt there already things like this? I mean, such as gaming arcades and possibly a friends where you can play and watch the tournaments... even for free? I play LoL and me and my friends didnt feel like shelling out the money to go see it when we just watched it together at GameWorks one time. I like the idea but when I really think about it, its not that practical.

Edit: But I definitely support this to come true because... whynot?

I know it's been successful in places like Brazil where they just stream the huge games, e.g. finals of world's. Maybe in the US they'd just do big LCS games. I've heard from people in other countries where they do this that watching it on the big screen is a totally different experience and worth paying for. For the smash community, I'm actually more interested in the fact that they would actually be hosting events. I mean we already pay venue fee normally, they might ask for a little more but every once in a while for a big event it seems like it'd be a great venue.

Just went through the survey, but I would attend to watch HUGE national events in the theater if there weren't any other options. Good luck!

And yeah I think that the smash community would be down to do this on something like EVO and Apex and such. Wondering how hosting a tournament in a theater would work though.

Just 1 logistical comment/question

If a theater is hosting a tournament, would it have a big empty room with tables, chairs, and enough power to host a tournament? Would it be a separate room from the theater room that finals would be displayed on? If it's the same room, it might not be a problem

What do you mean by empty room?

A place for players to play the game. A theater room wouldn't work since there are no tables nor space for set ups. Unless it's designed differently compared to most theaters and could be used for running a tournament

I'd love it if big tournies could be streamed in theaters. For instance, you could go and watch Top 8 of a national at a theater with, say, 50 other Smash fans, and maybe some people could bring portable setups for friendlies. It could be cool, but I'm not sure if it'd be practical.
