I'm wanting to unlock all equipment just to screw around with the game and such, but the fact that it's not only randomized but each character has specific equipment that only they use in some cases (Bowser has Smooth Landing Fake Nails or whatever, and another character might not have their smooth landing ____ unlocked)

Upon looking around a bit and finding that there's no real efficient way to unlock equipment you WANT, I noticed that the Action replay power saves site has the following code listed in its library:

"Headgear, Outfits & Specials Unlocked"

I'm just shooting in the dark here, but I'm wondering has anyone actually tried it to see if it unlocks all equipment as well? Just curious before I risk forking out money on it for nothing

Equipment is randomly generated.

The amount of possible equipment is essentially infinite because of this.

Powersaves does allow you to create or modify equipment. It does have some +200 all stat items for fun, but other than that (and unlocking all customs, a far more powerful feature) there is nothing terribly useful.

The equipment (and custom moves) you receive through various gameplay in SSB4 are all random, and there is no method in which you can pinpoint a specific item you want. You can only influence the likelihood of the item you want appearing. For example, being Sheik in classic and obtaining custom parts makes it much more likely that you will be awarded a Sheik custom, although there is a chance you could get other custom parts for other characters as well. This also applies to equipment. Essentially, playing through a mode that gifts equipment will offer it to the character you are playing as. To clarify, a run-through of Classic with Sheik will give you equipment for Sheik. I assume you already know all this, but I just wanted to go over it quickly.

As for Action Replay, I would say you have a better shot searching YouTube for SSB4 equipment Action Replay cheats, hacks, etc. Do not spend any money before you are certain that a cheat will efficiently get you the equipment and parts you want, so definitely do some research. I don't think an Action Replay could give you all the equipment, as there is technically an infinite amount of items in this category, and you are taking a big risk of receiving duplicates or having something go wrong with your game if something goes wrong on the AR's part. Unfortunately, I have not ever used AR on this game, and don't plan on it, because it takes away the replay value out of something that is not necessary to progress through SSSB4.

Yeah if it's all random I'm not gonna bother with buying one. What would you say is the best way to get equipment? Still just classic mode with the home button trick?

Yes, for the 3DS that is the currently known fastest way to do that if I'm not mistaken. Additionally, there is a pinned thread that shows how to unlock custom moves quickly if you need a bit of help going through that process.

Playing through Classic mode is most likely the quickest way. Google search the "Classic Mode Home Button Method in SSB4" and there's an ultra-fast way to unlock up to 10 custom moves per play-through. You can sometimes get a character's complete custom move list in 3, 4, or 5 play-throughs of Classic. I got all of Rosalina's custom moves in three Classics using this method. Here's a link just in case: http://youtu.be/HKby5OKOE1U
It's a little hard to see in the video, but it does the trick.

Edit: Sorry! I didn't see you said "with the home-button trick" at the end. My bad.

Yeah I've already been doing the home button trick, it's helped loads. I'm nearly finished unlocking all of the custom moves, I just wanted to mess around with some of the other lovely things, like "reduced landing lag" and "increased lateral aerial movement" on custom characters for fun to see how fun I can make characters.

What's REALLY a drag is not only is everything completely random, but it's not one size fits all either! It's enraging that there are separate custom equipment "types" (such as "nails" for bowser and "gloves" for mario) across the cast. So while I might have a reduced landing lag perk for one character, I may not for another...
