After playing Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS for a good number of hours yesterday, I've been feeling a bit queasy today. As a result, I should probably offer some advice to those who may have suffered from this incident before.

  1. You should moderate how often you play Smash 3DS in a day. For one example, try playing for up to 2 consecutive hours, and then take a break. Wait a couple hours afterwards before playing again.
  2. Having a timer or stopwatch with you could help ensure that your time with the game is up, but if the timer expires before you're done with a game, finish your game, and then turn off the software.
  3. Results can vary, depending on the individual.

I'm simply bringing this up, because I've suffered from appetite problems with some other games before, such as with Mario Kart 8, and it appears that Smash 3DS could be another culprit that I may have to watch out for. Oddly, I've been doing okay with Hyrule Warriors so far.

I played for 4 hours and 18 minutes, with a short half hour break in between. (Around the 3 hour mark or so) I didn't feel strange or anything, but my eyes did start feeling a bit tired.

Yeah it's for the best to take short break every once in a while.

....Actually, now that I think about it, does the game even give you any reminders to take a break? I don't think I've seen it yet. Which is a bit odd since a lot of Nintendo games give you one these days. Oh well....

Hahaha. My hands hurt like hell from playing 10 hours but other than that it's not a problem. You sound like parents who doesn't understand gaming or the "hey why don't you take a break" Nintendo puts in their games.

Theres a reason that so many games have a "Take a break every hour for 15 minutes or so" warning

Also, never play Smash Bros right before you go to sleep, you get too hyped. And stay calm even though you are frustrated.

I played it for several hours yesterday. Poor thumb started to hurt. In the morning it still did, but I played a bit more recently, and I realized using the joystick as I would use the wii u one prevents hurting, as you're moving your whole thumb not just half of it.

You're not my mom! :p

Joking aside, I never really had any problems with playing for long periods of time. Not even 3D can faze me.

Two words: Individual Susceptibility

Basically, I agree with this post; Smash is addictive as heck, and I've been playing literally all day (which isn't quite healthy for me), but I can stand more than 2 hours personally.

Recognize your own limits and make sure you break around those; limit your time more if you're not sure what said limit is.

Then again, there are some people that don't THINK it is affecting them when it really is.

The only issue I've had is slight aches in my left hand. I hold my 3DS XL in a weird way so that my pinky is facing in towards me while resting on the bottom left corner of the system. I consciously try to correct it but I later find myself doing it again.

There is a clock at the bottom screentelling the time, which I think is an awesome feature along with battery bar. I limit myself based on this.

I have felt bad before with a game in the past but only when the 3d was on.
