As fun as competitive Smash is, there are times when we feel the urge to play with other features such as items and the Home Run Contest. These features have no place in competitive Smash, yet they yield such a fun experience. How could we make use of them in a competition? I have a way! Introducing...Smash Arena!

Smash Arena is player-made competition where players face off in numerous different tests of skill, ranging across numerous different game modes. The competition is split into a variable amount of Rounds, each with a different game variation or mode. Players are pitted in 1v1 , Free for All, or 2v2 matches, occasionally forcing rivals to work together on the same time. Players may choose any character but must stick with that character for the entire Smash Arena. Rather than me babbling on about this, why don't I give an example?

Smash Arena starts off in Round 1. This round is a Bob-omb Battle, a 1v1 match where Bob--ombs are the only item and the frequency is set to High. Each player has three lives and the match is played on Smashville. The winner of the match will head to the next round, leaving the loser in the dust. Round 2 is completely different. This time, it's a 4-Player (2-Player if there aren't many participants) Home Run Contest, splitting remaining participants into groups of 4 (2 if there's not many participants), and the player with the highest score moves to the next round.

Before I explain any further, I should make it clear how many rounds there are. This depends on how many people are participating in the Smash Arena, as it will continue until all players but one or two are eliminated. The final battle is always the same. It is a tournament-style three stock match on Final Destination, no items, Fox only and it can be a 1v1 or 2v2. If there are 4 remaining players, you can either have them compete in another round to bring it down to 2 players, or have the 2v2 and end with two Champions. Either way, this is how to end a Smash Arena.

As for different types of rounds, you could try...

Pokemon Battle: 1v1, all items are set to Pokeballs and Master Balls, high frequency. Match is played on Pokemon Stadium 2 with two stock.

Smashketball: 2v2, using an excellent custom stage like this:

Play a three minute game of Smashketball with the score display visible, winning team goes onto the next round.

Target Blast: Play a 2 or 4 player Target Blast. The winner goes onto the next Round.

Melee Weapon Madness: Set items to Home-Run Bat, Ore Club, and Beam Sword and put on High frequency. 3 stock 1v1 match.

HP Match: Set both players to 300 HP and have them duke it out. It's likely they'll play a bit differently considering damage matters a lot more!

Anything You Can Think Of: Come up with your own exciting rounds! Who knew Giant Flower Smash with only Baseball Bats and Pokeballs could be so fun?

Anyway, I think you guys should try this new way to play, I'll bet you'll have fun! Let out your creativity!

I love playing Tenkaichi on Hyrule Temple. Basically, you go down onto the very bottom platform of it, and two players fight to make the other player fall off the platform. You lose if you land on the Cave of Life next to it, touch the ceiling except the ceiling above the bottom platform, or fall to your death. The other players wait in a line in the Cave of Life. The first player to successfully win against all the others in a row wins!
