Smash 4 thoughts: Sword fighting, the camera, custom moves, and individual launch rates

This here's a big crazy topic I've had brewing for a while. I thought about making these all individual topics, but I don't know, thought I would make a giant smorgasbord topic instead to get it all out of my system at once. You all should tell me if you think these are good ideas or not, or put your own twist on them.

Thought #1: Sword Fighting

It would be awesome if when two sword attacks cancelled out it made the rebound sound from Melee that sounded like metal clanging. Maybe if two punch/kick style attacks cancelled out it could make a more blunt sound or no sound at all like it does now. It would also be interesting if sword attacks were more likely to cancel sword attacks and maybe punches were more likely to cancel punches.

Thought #2: The Camera and Items, Stage Hazards, Zooming

I feel like there should be a few options for how the game camera behaves. I hate on big stages when the camera zooms out so you can see the hazard even when you're not near it, or an item appears in the far corner of a stage on somewhere like Palutena's temple ruining the camera until somebody goes and gets the item. I think there should several camera zoom options: Normal, Conditional Zoom-out, and Temporary Zoom-out. Conditional would mean the camera would just zoom out for about 3 seconds when the hazard or item first appears so you get a full view of it and then the camera would follow the players normally again unless they get within a certain range of the hazard's effects. Temporary would just do the initial 3 second zoom out and nothing else.

Also cool would be options for the distance scale of the camera: Normal, Far, and Close. The far setting would stay a tad further away, whereas the close setting would hug the characters a little closer like in Melee. In Melee the battles seemed a bit more cinematic to me because the camera seemed to stay closer to the action and to zoom in and out more quickly.

Thought #3: Custom Moves

It would be amazingly awesome if there were custom standard attacks for some characters. Maybe they could be implemented as different versions of a character or you could equip them like pieces of equipment that don't take up regular equipment slots. They would be a lot more "informal" than custom specials, with some characters not having any. Custom standards I could think of are older versions of character moves like Mario's N64 giant wind-up punch, or Captain Falcon's kick. Others would be giving Ganondorf a sword attack for his side smash. Maybe Samus could use more different items from the Metroid games.

More custom move slots would be awesome too for modding in the potential future.

Thought #4: Individual Launch Rates

I find fighting NPCs a bit boring. It would be so awesome if we could set the launch power of individual characters in Smash mode like you could in Melee with the old version of the Handicap setting. You could make so many fun battles like that.

Thought 1: I like that. Sakurai has been presented as being detailed. For example, making it look like the characters are cutting through air! I don't understand the canceling part.

Thought 2: I like the idea only if it doesn't affect standard FG, Online, and Local play. It'd be cool to have these options for some Smash skits.

Thought 3: I wouldn't really like custom moves for standard attacks. There is so many characters in this title, and there are already alternate special-moves for all but the DLC. Match-up knowledge would be very difficult, and I feel that this could intimidate casual players from learning the move of characters. The customs we have now are mostly based off their originals, which is why it's easy to generally guess what your opponents customs may be like.

Thought 4: Forgot about this. But would be a nice addition.

Personal Thought: I'd like to have replays that could be scripted. Basic camera panning and angling. And choose/act out commands that characters use. Would be great to show some dramatic creativity.

Moves cancelling out is when both people do an attack and the attacks block each other. Mainly what I'm thinking of is Smash Bros Melee. In that version attacks tended to stalemate/cancel a little more often in general, and the stalemate sound was metallic. Hence when you had two sword characters fighting it felt a little more like a sword fight. Also I liked the sword sounds more in that game haha.

Well I'm proposing it mainly as a gameplay improvement. I personally hate how the camera zooms so far out and stays that way for a hazard I'm not even close to. In Melee the camera hugged the players closer which I thought was more epic. It ruins (ok not really ruins, I'm exaggerating a bit) big stages and ones with hazards for me, not because I dislike the stages layout or the hazards but because they completely hijack the camera. I don't see how it would really give a competitive advantage or disadvantage as it depends mainly on what the player prefers. It would be easy too code-wise I think.

Thought 3: I wouldn't really like custom moves for standard attacks. There is so many characters in this title, and there are already alternate special-moves for all but the DLC. I guess honestly I'd only want a move here or there as far as standards go, not the whole "3 moves per character per direction" thing. Mainly I just want some kind of excuse to give Ganondorf a sword power attack besides the Warlock Blade without modding haha.

Kind of like movie making?
