Smash 4 - Lacking approach options?

So i really like Smash 4. Feels different from past games however, does anyone else feel this game has a lack of approaching? I usually find this a problem with Shulk, Ness and Lucario as they have plenty of coverage air wise and ground wise. Plenty of the cast has also lost alot of viability since previous games. It seems projectiles are the main way of approaching.

Yeah a dashdance would absolutely make the approach options better. So many game I've played involve both players standing still until someone dares to make a move.

you are forgetting perfect pivots, pivot grabs, as well as grabs in general, and turn-dashing or whatever it is called now.
But, a dash dance in which you can control the length of the area you dash would be very useful.

Okay so i think you're saying that you're having trouble getting in on these characters cause of their big or active hitboxes. It's definitely true that it can be a problem getting in on these guys and since that's the case the best option is probably to not approach in the air and instead approach by walking/short dashing with shield. Personally in this game I've adopted a playstyle of pestering my opponent any way i can before i even think about committing to an approach since shielding is so strong and air moves are often punishable at bad spacings. If you're playing Greninja like i see in your profile icons i think you're better off mixing up jumping projectiles/teleports/empty jumps and using your speed to react and sneak into range on an opponent as they approach.

Yeah i changed up my playstyle a bit to less aggression, more bait and it really helps against Shulk.

Part of the problem is the stage choices online. Yeah, Ness players are massive scumbags online that just sit at the ledge the whole game. It's degenerate and obnoxious and only works from time to time because of lag and flat stages but if you wanna play these modes you have to play it their way because of these problems. I usually just pull out Fox because He's really good against these types of players, you can't outcamp him. Just play with friends who you've got a good connection with and it's not a problem.
