Hello there, my Smash Brothers!

I would like to make an analysis video of the controller preferences/habits on Smash 4. For this purpose I will need some additionnal data. May I ask you two minutes of your time to answer a very quick survey on your Smashing habits? I would very much appreciate.

The survey in question.

Thanks a lot. :)

I filled it out. I am very passionate about controls in video games.

I have two minor problems with the survey: first, I use Pro controller, so neither of the answers for the grab question really apply to me (or to anybody who changes their triggers). I feel like they should be changed to "grab button" and "shield+attack". I answered the question as if those were the choices. The other one is the C-stick question. Since switching to Pro controller I've started using direction+A for a lot of aerials, so I feel like there should be a middle ground answer between "all the time" and "never". (Another nitpicky thing that doesn't apply to me: some people use a trigger to jump most of the time. Possibly include an answer like that?)

I just completed the survey, but I think you'll find my custom controls a bit strange. They're not very popular. However, they're really useful, and IMO, the best for the gamepad. I put jump on ZL, sheild on Y, and grab on X. If you have a chance, I hope you can mention it in some way.

I submitted a response.

I didn't have much a problem with any of the questions, but I would agree that some questions could have more open-ended answers; the answers to the questions about jumping and grabbing seem to primarily consider the GC controller, so it doesn't apply to exactly everyone. I do like that you asked about custom controls, though.

I've done the poll as well. Good luck with the analysis.

The Pro controller seems to be one of the most popular choices. Melee was my favourite game and I still favor the pro controller over the GC one, not sure why.

If I could choose out of all the smash-series, the N64 was my favourite to play with. I know it was horrid to some people, but for me everything fit perfectly, it was awesome.

Submitted, good luck on your research. As said above some of the questions could be asked differently as I use 3dsxl (c stick) to play on wii u.

This. I put R/L+A even though I use the Left trigger to grab. I also sometimes jump with the left bumper, but you can ignore this.

GC controller will always be the most common, even if you exclude all the people who actively play Smash 4 and Melee as of now. It's even found it's way into Smash 64 because of adapters, even though it's rare in that old game.

Official N64 controller isn't that bad. But if I were to play, I would either go GCN controller (if I can get a GCN to N64 adapter) or Hori Minipad (if I can't).

And... Done!

I'd like to see the video in question whenever it's completed.

im upset that there is no N64 controller adapter
N64 controller is three generations ago, and GameCube didn't have backwards compatibility. It would be cool (so the old Smash 64 players can play the later games), but there is absolutely no chance of it happening. :c
