Smash 4: Appreciation Thread?

Hey guys, I hope I am not scolded for making this a thread, but I am in LOVE with Smash 4!

I've played Sm4sh "vigorously" since release. In my opinion, Sm4sh feels like it's just a straight up fighting game. No gimmicks, nor glitches, just offense and defense. I quit Melee and Project M for Smash 4. I just feel that it is more polished, and smooth. I think I have this conotation because of the removal of many past glitches from Melee and Brawl and because the game feels focused on the fundamentals. I feel that matches are determined by who makes the best decisions (no duh, lol). Like a well situated spot dodge can be the turning point of a battle. Idk how to explain it, it feels like as if I am really fighting my brother when I play him. It's about dodging and attacking, it's a mental battle. Lol, from now on when we get angry we're just gonna fight in Smash, our virtual fighting arena.

My only gripe with Sm4sh, so far, is that they didn't bring back momentum jumping. Considering that certain high knock back attacks lock opponents in hitstun, momentum jumping would've made comboing better.

So let's discuss it. What do you love? What do you dislike?

I'm with you honestly. I've played every smash game for hundreds of hours each, including smash 4 and smash 3ds. Smash 4 is definitely my favourite. I've seen a wide variety of high level characters online. mostly all using different characters, and the matches seem to be less spammy than melee. More useful moves in every players arsenal. On a side note, the hate that 'perfect pivoting' gets for not quite being wavedashing is ridiculous. It's a useful technique, that's it. I use it, and it takes quite a bit of skill to pick the right times to use it. Less ATs makes the game focus more on actually using a variety of the characters built in movement options, which to me makes the game funner to watch. All in all, i haven't run into a single cheap tactic i couldn't beat, and i feel almost any character pick is a viable pick with enough practice. matches are very fun and varied, I think i'll get a lot less bored with the competitive scene of smash 4 than i have been with previous smash games.

If were talking other modes, I enjoy the 1player modes, i've almost completed all the challanges. but those are just something fun and tedious to do while cooling down from too much For Glory. Not hating on other smash games, i loved them all. But i don't see how this won't be considered the best installment.

I absolutely agree. I feel that the removal of 'ATs' lets Smash's original vision shine. Smash was meant to be a fighting game with simple controls. That's what Smash 4 feels like.

The fact that you lose so much momentum on initial jump is really dumb and made more sense when you lost it on double jump. I'm not sure where they got the idea to remove momentum, but it was probably the same meeting that took place for "The Gathering of the Stupid and Terrible Ideas" where the rage mechanic was pitched.

I just like Smash 4 because it feels fun and has my favourite characters in it.

I don't have any in-depth rationale or impressive justification for why I like it, I just do. So I respect you for making a thread like this. It's nice to be optimistic and thankful for what we have, y'know?

Smash 4 is pretty on the eyes and pretty fun to play. It has very intresting new comers. But it still feels too much like brawl for me and rewards defensive play more than offensive. I still perfer the other smash games for more rewarding agressive play.

The game is shiny. I'll give it that.
