Smash 3DS killed the Wii U hype?

I'm so convinced, at first i thought Wii U had many extra stuff so people would still be so hyped, but i see myself, i don't have a Wii U, and i was thinking to get it before the release of Smash 3DS, then i bought Smash 3DS, and now even though i really would love to play Smash Wii U, i can always get it later. If there was the only Wii U version, i'd sell my stuff and still get it, for real. But now i'm like "Eh, i already have the 3DS one, Wii U can wait "
What do you think? Do you agree?

The primary smash scene revolves around the console version, which is infinitely better in every way except portability and certain stages. Don't just settle for what you have when you can always get more.

Kind of a misleading title since that´s just your opinion, but just like you, I only have the 3ds version at the moment.

I agree. When Brawl came out I got it on launch day. It's been about a week since the Wii U version came out and I'm in no rush to get the Wii U game. Would be nice to play on an actual controller instead of this 2DS though.

I know Wii U version is awesome, i almost cried while watching the 50 facts thing lol. It's just, i don't know. I'm not "that" hyped since i have the 3DS version, if there was only Wii U version, i'd definitely be THAT hyped.

I guess this is an opinionated claim because I live in Australia (game comes out tomorrow) and I got Smash for the 3DS on the day of release. I'm not going to deny that I was swept up with smash for a while before I paid any concern to the Wii U version, however the closer I got to the release date of the Wii U version the more and more I realised I was really getting hyped up for this. The Wii U version does feature a lot more content than the 3DS version and seems like the 'better' game out of the two, but I can see where you're coming from if cash is tight and you can only afford one out of the two.

The Wii U version is far superior in every aspect to the 3DS version. Just to be able to play Smash in full HD on a bigger screen with barely any lag (although I am not really a graphics junkie) is hype enough for me. Plus the immense amount of content made the hype even bigger.

You can look at the 3DS version as an appetizer or a supplement of what to expect while the Wii U version gets released and also you can look at the 3DS version as a cheaper alternative that doesn't lack in quality.

And while I am at it, FREE MEWTWO DLC HYPE!!! :mewtwomelee:

How is this an opinionated claim if it's only my opinion and i'm asking for yours? ._.

I want to, but i'm in no rush since i have the 3DS version, that's the point of this thread actually :)
yes but the point of my thread is : go buy the wii u version and sell your 3ds one, seriously...wii u version is 100x better ...3ds seem like a demo version in comparison. ( SURE i like the 3ds version for a little bit but if you like local multiplayer go for wii u.)

I was referring to this part of your original post:
But now i'm like "Eh, i already have the 3DS one, Wii U can wait "
As the decision to get/not get the Wii U version just because you have a 3DS copy is purely an opinionated decision. Maybe claim isn't the best word for what I'm saying, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what I'm referring to.

Personally, the 3DS version did nothing but ramp up the hype for the Wii U version for me. As much as I love the 3DS version, when I was playing it before the Wii U release I couldn't help but keep thinking how I couldn't wait to play it with a proper controller in full HD.

i want the Wii U version, i don't even have a Wii U, and it keeps getting delayed just because i have the 3DS one, but these replies sure made me work harder to get a Wii U i think. I'll get it eventually...

If it's a price issue then you might be able to pick yourself up a Wii U for a (relatively) cheap price depending on where you live, especially with black friday coming up. I might be able to help you out with finding one if you shoot me a pm with the country you're in.

Also I kind of forgot to answer your question in my first couple posts, so I'll put a small list of some of the reasons I'm getting hyped for the Wii U:
- Controllers: The circle pad isn't the end of the world, but I'm sure it'll be a lot smoother gameplay when I finally get my hands on a controller and adjust to it.
- More/Easier Co-Op Gameplay: With the 3DS version the only reason to play with friends was another 3DS and copy of the game, now you're able to just plug in another controller and you're even given more ways to play Co-Op (challenges, two player story mode, etc.)
- Graphics/Bigger screen: I'm not somebody who focuses too much on resolution but I would be lying if I told you the graphics on the Wii U look absolutely incredible, and the fact that it's now on a bigger screen is far better than the cramped up screen on the 3DS (especially if you aren't using an XL).

This is all coming from somebody who is having the game released to him tomorrow, so I'm still feeling pretty hype.

The 3DS version does feel like a demo, but at least its portable, though Ice Climbers shouldn't have been cut because of it.

No, it didn't "kill" the hype. Wii U is Wii U; 3DS is 3DS.
No, Smash 3DS is not an appetizer / demo / supplement. (a full game is a demo rofl no.) It is its own game, just like Wii U. Cuts had to be made, obviously.
No, don't sell your 3DS copy.

Yes, you can get Wii U at any time.
Yes, you can play both versions.
Yes, you can wait for the right moment so that you can get Wii U.

I am very pumped to get the Wii U version, the GC adapter and the controller, and my own Yoshi Amiibo tomorrow.

...However, I am disappointed in the Wii U versions's single-player offerings.

And it is because of the 3DS version. The Wii U version's single-player offerings are basically the same as the 3DS versions. Except it lacks Smash Run, and it lacks any type of equally big mode to make up for it (Smash Tour is for multiplayer and I don't think it took nearly as much effort to make as Smash Run did).

Brawl had the Subspace Emissary to hype me up as it's big new single-player thing (and a big new thing in general). And I am kind of disappointed in the Wii U version that it doesn't have anything as extravagantly big as SSE and Smash Run. With the exception of Events, Master Fortress, and Special Orders, the Wii U game's single-player content is no different to the 3DS version's. It's just more playing all of these different modes with every character, getting every custom move, getting every trophy, etc. And that is going to feel way more tedious than it ever has in the Wii U version, because I just got off doing that on 3DS.

So I guess my answer is "yes and no". I am not looking forward to the single-player experience in this game, at all, while I did on 3DS. I am not looking forward to unlocking a bunch of stuff that I only unlocked on 3DS within the last two months, all over again. However, I'm still looking forward to everything outside of the main single-player experience, from better controls, to Amiibo, to 8-Player Smash, to the online features, to the Stage Builder, to taking HD photos of the characters (specifically Rosalina, heheh), and the stages.

I'll probably enjoy this more than the 3DS version overall, but it's just that it could have been a bit better.

Yeah my feelings exactly, about the single player thing. It's obviously a better experience than 3DS, but a second SSE would be GREAT. It was awesome and i will not accept a stupid excuse... "They put those videos on internet so i won't do that anymoar!"

I own the 3DS version and I couldn't not buy the Wii U version the very second it went on sale in the eShop. The fact that anyone wouldn't get it on launch day gives me the impression they don't like Smash games all that much.

This thread's excessive use of the word "hype" makes me cringe.

I will admit I went through a small phase of thinking that there wasn't much more to the Wii U version and I was depressed there were no big surprises left that I hadn't already experienced on 3DS.

That still bothers me actually but I discovered day one that I don't care. The Wii U version is just a better game in literally every aspect. I even started to have fun doing some of the things I've already done on 3DS.
