Skyllus vBi's Halo 3 account hacked for exclusive armor. MS ignoring security leak?

For those of you who don't know, Bungie has been giving out a special armor variant to prestigious members of the Halo 3 online community called "Recon Armor."

Skyllus vBi, one of two winners (so far) of Recon Armor, had his Xbox Live account stolen from him (the ability to wear the armor is tied to the online account). The "hacker" actually didn't hack to get Skyllus's information, instead, he simply called 1-800-MyXbox and pretended to be Skyllus. After a few calls, he had enough information to trick the operator into giving him a password reset form. Once he got that, he had access to Skyllus's personal information, credit card, etc.

This is not the first time someone had their account stolen by someone asking for it over the phone, there have been reports of this happening as early as March of last year. Microsoft still hasn't done anything to remedy the situation. vBi is a professional gaming team. They are trying to raise awareness of the problem with Xbox Live's security. As a friend of theirs, I ask everyone here to help raise awareness and help protect Xbox Live users from identity theft and related cyber crimes.

vBi highly encourages everyone to email Techcrunch at email@techcrunch.com to have them post this story.

vBi is keeping gamers updated in this thread at mlgpro.com

You can read up conversations with the "hacker" at this thread at vBi's website and this thread at Bungie.net

Here are some other links about the issue. vBi appreciates any and all support given to them by fellow gamers to raise awareness of this issue.

All of this just for recon armor? Cheesh, someone really wants it!
And is it really that easy? For example, all they have to do is that they call 1-800-MyXbox and then pose as me and then they can reset my password and gain access into my Xbox Live account? This is ridiculous!

I just sent an e-mail to techcrunch, I hope it helps because such things as account stealing shouldn't happen just like that, with a couple of phone calls.

People are demanding that Microsoft admit to this security breach but knowing them, they won't admit it.
They'd better fix the security problem soon! :(

Malot3, I saw your reply back at teamvbi.net. Thanks for the support, as well as anyone else who sent emails for us. It's awesome to see how gamers have each others backs like this.

vBi is still working on techcrunch, and now Gizmodo is the other blog they're pushing for as well. You can email them at blam@gizmodo.com.

Thanks again guys.
