Lately, I've been trying to think about how the Super Mushroom, Poison Mushroom, and Lightning items could work out for Smash U and Smash 3DS. I did have the following in mind.

Super Mushroom
*Character's size is increased to 3/2 his/her original size.
*Weight is boosted by 3/2.
*Direct attacks deal 3/2 their original damage.

Poison Mushroom
*Character's size is decreased to 2/3 his/her original size.
*Weight is reduced by 2/3.
*Direct attacks deal 2/3 their original damage.

Lightning
*Can either affect the opponents, or the player who touched the item.
*If the item causes players to shrink, their size will be 1/2 their original size. This also reduces their weight and direct attack power by 1/2.
*If the item causes players to grow, their size will be 2x their original size. This also boosts their weight and direct attack power by 2x.

Size Formula
Super Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/4)
Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/3)
Normal = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/2)
Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (3/2)
Super Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (4/2)

Additional Notes
In Group Mode, certain special options can enable players to start out as being tiny or giant. They can choose between the five size options shown above, and they can become even more tiny or huge by being affected by the proper items.

Default = Super Tiny
*Mega Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/6)
*Ultra Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/5)
*Super Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/4)
*Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/3)
*Normal = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/2)

Default = Tiny
*Ultra Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/5)
*Super Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/4)
*Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/3)
*Normal = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/2)
*Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (3/2)

Default = Giant
*Tiny = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/3)
*Normal = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/2)
*Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (3/2)
*Super Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (4/2)
*Ultra Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (5/2)

Default = Super Giant
*Normal = (Character's Normal Size) * (2/2)
*Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (3/2)
*Super Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (4/2)
*Ultra Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (5/2)
*Mega Giant = (Character's Normal Size) * (6/2)

Conclusions

How does it work in previous iterations? Does damage output scale consistently with character size? If you pick a Super Mushroom, does your size, weight and damage output double as well? How does it affect speed?

Ah, ok. Well, I guess it'll work much the same in Smash 4. For instance, with Giant Brawl mode turned on, characters are 1.6x larger to begin with; collecting a Super Mushroom just applies the same modifier again, so the character becomes 2.56x larger than their standard model, and presumably the other variables scale in the same manner.

This cuts down on lines of code, as you don't need to pre-establish sets of variables for each case. Incidentally, this is also what led to the "Giant Jigglypuff" glitch in Brawl (the game asks for variables to be modified, but the command to change the variables back afterwards is interrupted).
