Smash Apprentice
Good evening, I actually never consider this a problem until I played my weekly tournament in class today. I left my Pro Controller at home but my classmate had an official black Nintendo GameCube controller so I wasn't really worried. We played a 2 stock 6-minute matche as usual and I got Bodied. I was missing inputs, not shielding properly, not sidestepping, and a bunch of other miscellaneous missed Tech. Since melee, I have always used the GameCube controller up until Smash 4 came out.
Whenever Smash 4 debuted, I picked up the Pro Controller out of curiosity and fell in love with it because of how comfortable it was and how I no longer had to worry about hand pains after a couple of hours of playing. I have been playing on the Pro Controller ever since and as soon as I picked up the GameCube controller today, it felt like a completely foreign controller. As I started playing on it, it felt incredibly uncomfortable and I found myself freezing up when normally with my Pro Controller I would be throwing out tippers from Marth with no problem pinpointing air Dodges like it was nothing. With smash 5 announced for the switch, should I train myself to relearn the GameCube controller or should I just let it go?
The switch Pro Controller feels comfortable as well but I know that each one of these controllers won't be able to transition as Nintendo keeps putting out newer consoles and they will probably continue to support the GameCube controller. I found myself improving a lot faster with the Pro Controller than I ever did with the GameCube controller, it honestly would feel like I would be destroying my own future potential if I pick up the GameCube controller again, but I'm pretty sure this is all in my head. Should I continue to practice with the GameCube controller to refamiliarize myself with it or should I follow my natural instincts and continue to outgrow it and move past it? Let me know what you guys think
