Simple Mode Replaces Classic Mode

Well, by the sounds of it. Simple Mode is just Classic Mode with a different name.
So if anything, it's not "replaced", more renamed.

"Simple Mode" is what Japan calls Classic Mode.

Gotta remember its a translation. "Simple" can be "Classic" on the whim of the localization team. Which it probably will be Classic still.
