tl;dr
When your post is smaller than your signature, we will infract you.
Dear Pool Room,

Azua and I are sick of you guys breaking the rules, so I'm going to go ahead and make an entire thread devoted to the one rule that SWFers, such as yourself, seem to break more than any other rule. Signature violations.

They're annoying, stupid, and believe it or not, we hate giving them out. But we have to, lest we be stripped of our pretty red names. And we don't want that! So I'm here to teach you guys how we handle signatures here.

First, allow me to reiterate our current rule about signatures.

Global Rules said:
9. Signature Rules Remember, no more than 8 lines maximum in a signature (about 125 pixels) and no images wider than 550px -- and watch the filesizes of images. Large images will be removed! Any signatures longer will be automatically clipped off. Also, if you post something really short, don't use your signature if it's longer than what you posted. [this goes for HEIGHT AND LENGTH] Remember not to use really wide images that stretch out the page, either. Violators may have their profiles locked at an administrator's discretion.

* Sig Violation - 1 point, 2 weeks length
* Repeated Infractions - locked profile
You guys do a good job of following most of these rules-- but please, direct your attention to the large, bold, italicized, red text, as it is the most broken rule on the entire forum-- and I want that to end.

As you know, SWF is anti-fun, and 100% professional. When we post, we like to see more content than signatures. It's to avoid conversations that look like this:

What's your favorite food?

Sushi is by far the best!

So, as you can see, it's 90% signature, 10% content. It's annoying, ugly, unprofessional, but mostly just annoying.

If you post your signature, please, make sure you have more content in your post. For example:

My name is Xsyven, and I hate giving out signature violations. But the one thing I hate more about giving out signature violations, is when people don't know the rules, and try to argue with me for about two days straight over whether or not they broke a rule. This thread will now serve as my excuse to not have to argue with you. When you break the signature rule, it's your fault for not reading the rules-- not our fault for not giving enough warning.

Happy posting!

SO! What's the lesson today? Disable your signatures if they're bigger than your post! Doing so will result in cleaner forums, and the moderation team <3ing you.

Thanks for reading the tl;dr version, and happy posting!

Also, when you're in doubt if whether your post is bigger or not, just shut it off.

Better to be safe than sorry.
