Signature banners - Noobish Question

So Im new to the site and everything, my name is Shawn and my question is, how/what program did some of you guys use to make the insane banners in the signatures? I would like to try and make one for the characters that I mainly use in brawl. I know its a pretty noob-ish question but help me out AIM SN: rocker4ever117, or just post back on here

Try the GIMP or Photoshop, depending on what you have access to.

thanks mugquomp for the quick response, I just got GIMP a few weeks ago and I never tried it out. Any more tips on how you make them look so good though? anybody?
