Smash Rookie
I must have been around twelve, at a friends party, all of us staying up all night playing the game. It was then that the last character revealed himself to us, Captain Falcon, and he was so good. Good to us at least, who couldn't tackle level 9 comps. So staying up to see who could beat the level 9 Captain Falcon is my earliest SSB memory. I got the gamecube for two games, Metroid Prime and SSBM. I wanted to get a wii almost exclusively for Brawl, and now the only game I play on my 3DS is SSB. I love this game. That being said, I'm at best just an above average user. I know all the concepts but putting them to use is a bit of a struggle currently. I'm also troubled with sticking to a specific character.
My issue with fighting is that I think I play against comps too much, however I don't seem to learn much when playing against people. A lot of this would be made simpler if I could stick to a specific character but a lot of my errors are not usually character specific. Choosing the wrong move comes up quiet a bit, not having the reach or being fast enough for the situation. I'm semi decent at reading people but then I fail to take advantage of this, walking into stuff that should of easily been avoided. I'm also terrible defending the ledge. My grab, shield, and dodge game could all use work. If I had to pick one area though that I excel at it's switching up my combat style. When playing characters with a variety of attack modes I can effortlessly switch between them, although knowing when isn't always so apparent to me. Still I think what skill I have in these areas is far above the average of the majority of players, just not tournament worthy.
As for characters, all the ones I love seem to be lower tier, and all the ones that are "better characters" just don't appeal to me much. I'm currently rolling around with DeDeDe, Ganondorf, and MegaMan. That being said I can see myself being good with Link, Shulk, Zero Suit Samus and of course Captain Falcon. I have a lot of love for the Captain but I just always wish I was playing Ganondorf instead. I also really wish to play Greninja more, and I do have fun playing Jiggly Puff, Toon Link, Kirby and Samus. I also want to give a shout out to the Mii characters who I feel are underused considering how fun it is to play your own character. But to sum it all up I just don't know exactly who my main would be.
So my goal now is to find some partners who wish to fight semi regularly, exchanging some contact info or communicating on site. I'm mostly looking for people who understand that I need training, not a beat down. I'd also be more than happy to give advice. Like I said, my gameplay isn't great but I'm very good when it comes to the concept side of things. I don't discriminate, be it by skill, age, or anything else. No need to be shy. I look forward to hearing from you.
