I think I'm the only Marth player who consistently uses Marth's side+b in matches, outside of recovering. So I wanted to ask, why don't people use it? I admit the move isn't perfect, I think it's better than people give it credit for, it does have utility.

I don't know how you would get the idea that nobody uses side - b.
Ken probably is the Marth main using it the most, but others do throw it out when the situation arises as well.

TBH, I model my Marth after Ken, who doesn't have the best Marth, but it's entertaining. And the idea is that whenever I play a marth or watch a marth who's not ken, it seems like a forgotten move, outside recovery. Do you use it (assuming you play Marth)?

I'm not a Marth main, I just play him at times. I don't use a lot of side-b, mostly the side b > uptilt thing vs high percent floaties, and at times I like dash away for a bit > turn around, dash forward for the tiniest bit > side b to move away from an approach and get the angle on it (though I think with better spacing / timing a grab would be better here) ... or in some situations I like the knockdown on the down-variant of the third hit for combo-stuff.

If you want to see another Marth who utilizes it a lot watch reaper from Germany, he does a ton with it.

The knockdown version is probably my favorite spike in the whole game.

I watched a few matches of reaper and that marth is unorthodox if I've ever seen one. I love it.

Yeah, Go look up the match between M2K and Juggleguy's Fox. That side b spike was amazing, and he knew it would work too. I like seeing new things, so it's a pretty good move.

Normally, I don't like M2K's Marth, but that spike was beautiful, oh my god.

True, The PP punish is a pretty good use of it on floaties. Basically it's first hit and then BAM uptilt.

Side B is probably best used for one of two ways(in my opinion):
1. To mix up your approach options and throw off your opponent.
2. To quickly attack your opponent when you over shoot and attack(and swords dance behind you) or just when they are facing behind you in general. The first Hit Box of Marth's swords dance comes out at on frame 6, which is equivalent to his Up Tilt. Most players would Up Tilt in a situation when an enemy is facing behind them, but it will take until frame 12 for the Hit Box to go directly behind Marth and hit the enemy. That's double the time it would take you if you would have just sword danced(Side B) in the direction your opponent is standing. And if your spacing is good you might be able to land Sword Dance 1-3(hitting the B button 3 times in a row) and launch you opponent fairly far across the screen, that's if they don't DI away.

I really enjoy using the sideB because of the last down option where he stabs a couple times.

Not that good of a move but it looks cool :D

The side b spike with the third down hit is better tho lol, cause it gives you a knockdown.

I barely use Side-B. but every once in a while I'll throw it out to spike. One of my favorite spikes in the game to be honest.

Bruh its the most satisfying. 3rd time I'm bringing up the M2k game against Juggleguy but holy **** I lost it when I saw that last stock spike

I find Side B to be an awesome way to stuff a falcon's approach. When using it they will often shield which can lead to a grab. This can also be mixed up with continuing the Side B if they don't shield among just about anything else.

I still haven't mastered it yet so when I do bring it out mid match, I can usually only get the first two swings out. I know what to do and can do it when in training mode but in an actual match, I always get flustered and mess it up. I definitely believe it's useful though, even if its used only as a surprise attack.
