Should you use the C-stick when in the air to spike and meteor?

Should You use the c-stick or is it the same as regular attack button?
I couldn't find the answer online.

There isn't really on definitive answer, it just depends on what you are most comfortable with.

For instance, when I use Down Airs, I always flick the C-stick down so I don't fast fall to my death

I just manually input it personally by holding down on the analog stick and pressing a. It really depends on what you makes you comfortable honestly.

The only thing I use the C-Stick for is Sticky Walking.

Whatever makes you feel comfortable. That said, using the C-Stick avoids the risk of accidentally fast-falling, which for some characters can spell doom.
