To this day, some tournaments only allow players to use the Gamecube controller. In Melee, this is obviously the only option there is. But in Smash 4 and even Brawl to a lesser extent, there are a plethora of controller options. Many regard the Gamecube controller as superior to all others. Personally, I don't agree. But it's just an opinion. But the topic remains-why in some tournaments are Gamecube controllers the only controllers allowed? Allow me to look at the reasoning behind this.
One primary reason is lag. Many say that the Gamecube controller has the least input lag out of all the controllers. This has been proven wrong. However, the 3DS does have a chance of taking one frame longer than all other controllers. Here's a video on it.
Another thing is that wireless controllers may interfere with an ongoing match. In my opinion, you should just take the batteries out of the controller so it doesn't interfere. Plain and simple, I'd say.
What is your opinion on the matter? I understand preferences for the Gamecube controller. You do you. But, I think that for the tournaments that only allow said controller...Well, allowing at least the Wii U Pro Controller would be nice. That's all I've got- debate on it in the thread!

For small local tournaments it's okay, but once you're hitting 100 people, hell maybe even less than that, you're looking at a huge logistical issue. Wired controllers are just plug and unplug whereas wireless isn't exactly that simple and you're going to have a tough time finding who ever forgot to disconnect.

There's no reason not to allow wireless controllers, especially when there are workarounds like taking out the batteries or having a setup specifically to sync up to after your sets. I think Genesis 3 might even have specific setups where all wireless controller matches will take place.
