Smash 3DS Should Nintendo get rid of friend codes for the 3DS and just stick to NNIDs?

Yes I have never liked friend codes I think they are stupid. You have a NNID why do we need friend code.

I'd agree if I'd gotten the ID I wanted, but Raijinken was taken, and I like being able to appear as Rai.

That said, I'm not really familiar with how adding people goes, or if there's a shown name/nickname that could make up for the fact (seeing as I have no Wii U).

I've never liked the friend codes. If we already have to have NNIDs, what's the point of them? They're also easier to put in. Seriously, the amount of times I got it wrong...

at least it's system based on not as BS game-based like it was before.
but it definitely should be ID based and synch up between systems for those of us who have both.

I would prefer that, but I don't think Nintendo would implement it.
What we have now sure is a step forward compared to Wii Numbers and Brawl FCs though. :4pacman:

Defiantly, I'm tired of having to risk it by secretly sharing friends codes on Miiverse.
Next portable they should get it right.

Friend Codes. It would feel quicker just checking your friend list and being like "Oh he's playing For Fun (and there's one slot open) I should play with him!" instead of having to waste a few minutes getting on Miiverse.

Yes, but it likely won't happen, sadly. The friend code system is probably too far integrated into 3DS to remove it with a system update. I'd love to be wrong though.

Maybe the friend codes could be ditched next portable?

Yeah it's a bit too late to do that as there have been a lot of games out who had their online implemented with friend codes since the system's launch so it would require updating them all as well as the current system and everything. I can definitely see this being changed for the next gen handheld console though.

The only reason friend codes exist is for kiddies, so it's harder for them to accidentally add some stranger who might have bad intentions (which has been reported to happen before, despite the friend code system).

NNID's are much more practical in general, and I really think kids shouldn't be playing online without parental supervision to begin with.

The only reason they added NNID's to 3DS right now is so people could share their eShop Wallet between Wii U and 3DS, as well as allowing them to use Miiverse on 3DS.

This would actually depend solely on how past games were coded. I actually don't think it would be an issue though, since 3DS games simply look for who's registered as a friend, they don't seem to look for the friend code specifically. Friend codes are essentially just an extra step in adding a friend to your account, the games themselves likely don't need to know the friend code, just who's registered as a friend.

I present to you, the land of kiddies.

I mean, c'mon. If Nintendo is scared of kids adding strangers it's not their fault. It's the parents fault. They can set it to where you can't add people in the first place for NNID's. If kids can go on COD and cuss to their squeeky vocal chords content then some freedom and ease of use for the long time Nintendo fans should be permitted.

^That's kinda my point. They shouldn't limit/present an extra hindrance to their long time fans just because a few dumb parents are too lazy to setup parental controls or monitor what their kids are doing. Especially since friend codes are completely gone on Wii U.

It's kind of impossible. You'd have to make sure that everyone could handle 100 NNID friends and 100 3DS friends, which I don't think is possible. You could eliminate all 3DS friends, but that's really problematic.

It's not their job, but they want to cover all bases because THEY get blamed for it. When stuff like child predators on SwapNote or FOX news reporting on PictoChat doing things it factually cannot do, the media will blame Nintendo.

So Nintendo is just covering their own asses because the masses are too stupid to take responsibility and they want no part in it.

It sucks, but I don't blame them for trying to avoid stuff like that. It's not for the kids as much as it seems, but really for them to protect themselves from angry parents who are at fault.

Not sure what you're saying. You don't have to go to Miiverse to see what your friends are doing.

The Wii U has a friend list too. It functions exactly the same way as on 3DS, but with NNIDs instead of Friend Codes. No Miiverse involved. It tells you what they are playing and allows you to exit back out and hop in to find them in their game.

What Nintendo needs to do is implement Animal Crossing New Leaf & Pokemon's thing where you can -always- be online and interact with people whenever.
