Should I upgrade my 3DS?

I've been worried for a while that my regular 3DS has a screen that is just too small for the characters to be seen. I really didn't want to buy an XL, but with Zipzo and many others also saying that he's worried for regular 3DS users, I think it's set in stone now.

I need advice.

I'd live with it until the NEW 3DS comes out. It won't make that much of a difference.

Can you afford it? It honestly depends on how much you honestly feel you will be playing the system. If you're like me, and you bought it for smash and haven't really used it that much, then you're better off just keeping the one you have. If you plan on playing the 3DS version of smash as your main game, then invest into it.

Honestly, given the fact that the new 3DS was announced, I would just wait it out and do the best with what you have. At one point I contemplated just selling my 3DS after the Wii I version came out, but playing smash on the go is something I've been wanting since I was a kid so I'll probably hold on to it. I think the regular 3DS is fine, and I'm 6"1 with pretty big hands. I honestly like it more because of it's portability.

Yeah, buying an XL now is really just throwing money away. Stick with whatever hardware you have, and when the New 3DS comes out (and you've had time to evaluate how worthwhile smash 3ds is to you!), consider whether you want an upgrade. I'm sure Nintendo had some strategy involving selling more hardware with their New 3DS plans, but from where I'm sitting, they have given us all a great incentive to spend less.

I'm in the same boat. I was intending to get the Limited Edition XL for Smash but that New 3DS annoucement threw that idea away.

I sincerely hope I don't have to wait any longer than Summer 2015, though. :\

the new 3DS isn't coming until next year, and even then we don't have a date (I would assume around the original 3DSes release date). I would say a XL is still worth it, whether you trade your 3DS in for one (recommended) or get one refurbished from Nintendo.

I'd wait for the N3DSXL, unless you manage to get a normal XL for cheap. I couldn't justify plunking down 200$ for a system you'll use for two years tops.

I'm a bit worried about that too. But I''ll probably just wait and get the XL version of the "New" 3ds when it comes out in 2015.

I was about to buy a 3ds xl about 2 days before the announcement of the n3ds... what a relief that was... cut my losses by just getting a circle pad pro (sucks that wont work for smash)

I'm fine with my orignal 3DS, so I'd just skip the XL then upgrade when the New Nintendo 3DS comes put (If you're getting the New Nintendo 3DS).

Not really. Not for smash anyway. I think you should just play for a bit first and if it is really that bad go ahead and get a 3ds xl. I personally only upgrade if there is a significant benefit or incentive to do so and generally there is none yet for an xl. For a new 3ds xl though i may get based on the exclusive new 3ds games that come out.

Don't upgrade until the new 3DS is out, THEN get one.

I got an XL day one, and I had the standard before it. It was well worth it.

Idk, imo I think 5 months or so is too much waiting
Upgraing to an XL at this point is a waste of money. And if the game won't last you that long then it would have been a waste of money either way.

I'm also concerned with the small screens but I know my main game will be the Wii U version so I'm not too worried because once the Wii U version drops I will only play the 3DS one on the go+ I will upgrade once the new set of handheld systems drop!

Lol we are on the same boat but I have to come to a conclusion to keep the original 3DS and just play that one on the go and mainly play the Wii U one. Maybe update to NEW 3DS just maybe lulz :p

You should think about if you're going to play the 3DS version after the Wii U one comes out (assuming you're getting that one). If you're not, I'd say there isn't a point in getting the new 3DS at all. If you are, then I'd strongly suggest that you wait for the new 3DS and buy that when it's released. Getting a 3DS XL at this point is nothing but a waste of money.

No point in wasting unnecessary money now when you know there's a new 3DS right around the corner. Just wait it out, I don't think Nintendo would make the new Smash Bros only work comfortably on XL, so you should be fine for a little while if you don't mind waiting.
