Should I not play the computer too often?

I began playing PM as Dr. Mario and was able to 4 stock lvl 9 CPUs. I thought I was awesome till I played some friends on vacation and get deeeeessstrrroooyyyeeddd. These dudes said they didn't even do well in tournaments, either. By the end of the day we had played a good four-five hours and I was beating them all. The human experience made me much better. So my question is, is playing against the CPU/practice mode counterintuitive? Will it make me develop bad habits and be used to playing ****ty players?

Stop playing PC's. You will develop bad habits, they have beyond good Di, they make bad choices, they don't respect spacing etc. They are ok to keep yourself warmed up, learn combos or learn/practice tech but don't play them a lot or only play them.

I like how people Specifically say Dr. Mario as if he is a separate character x]

But yeah, CPU's. bad habits.. Make you feel to comfy.. Bad thing to get used to. To predictable. All that stuff.

Against CPUs you can practice movement and combos. If you've played humans enough you can practice against CPUs without having to worry about your skills diminishing.

Actually, it's best to practice on level 7 cpus as compared to level 9. Level 7's will DI and behave differently (even if slightly) each time where as level 9's will never change in DI and tech.

I recommend only playing CPUs in Training Mode with them set to do something other than attack (mostly standing still) or on like level 1 to 3 or something. And don't use them to try and like... win against. Use them as a bodybag (a sandbag) to just beat up on, to practice your tech skill and timings.

Fighting vs their AI, as you found, will not help you fight a human. The only reason to fight a CPU is to get your fingers to do exactly what you want them to do every time (tech skill) and your spacing and stuff, not for learning strategy, mindgames, or things like that.

I'm positive on this. All of my friends and I practice on level 7 cpus and when we go to meetups and/or are just fighting against each other, we never do poorly.

playing the CPU is the fastest way to become awful at this game. its better to not play at all than to play the CPU. if you absolutely must practice, play vs the lv 1 CPU in melee. never ever play vs the CPU in PM. ever. EVER. EVER. EVER. JUST DO NOT DO IT. EVER.

High level cpu's are really bad to play against. I agree with Umbreon... under certain conditions. If you are playing the cpu to try and beat, itll get you no where and you are better off not playing. It can also work to get your tech skill and combos down, but thats better to do on training mode imo against a standing cpu. The only reason you would ever want to play a cpu is to not let them hit you. Always try to zone them out, practice whats safe and whats not, dont even go for grabs even if you know you can grab em just say to yourself "Oh i couldve grabbed him here but i gotta stay safe". Play like if you were at 999% Yes its gonna be campy and slow, but if you were to fight one, that imo is the only reason. But to do this, you kinda have to know the options the cpu has. Say if you are fighting a Link or something, you would have to know that a person might throw a boomerang or bomb right there and play safe around that AND the cpu's option.

Playing the computer is better than nothing, go for it. Really only helps if you play an item character, outside of that, its just meh. It is good practice for stopping certain recoveries, like spacies
