There's a Smash Bros. for Wii U bundle being sold online, which comes with the Wii U game, a special edition Gamecube controller, and the adapter that allows you to plug it into the Wii U.

I haven't played a Smash Bros. game using the Wii Pro controller, so I can't compare it to the Gamecube controller.

So I'm wondering... Is it better just to buy the game and a Wii Pro controller? Or should I drop the cash on the bundle and get the Gamecube controller? Which is better for Smash?

I think it will be better to buy the bundle and buy a Wii U pro controller later. The GC controller is much more comfortable and the C stick is placed better. Also, i'm willing to bet that you've owned Melee and Brawl and that you're used to using the GC controller, So i'd say get the Bundle, since you get £10 off with it anyway(UK price).

I'd say get the bundle. But that's because I'm stuck in the past (on a better controller, but still in the past) and really can't stand it when the joystick is asymmetrical compared to the input buttons.

Thanks for the input guys.

Any opinions from people who have used both Pro and Gamecube controllers extensively with Smash?

I think you should get the bundle.

I don't have a strong opinion on the Pro controller because I haven't been able to spend much time with it, the Gamecube controller on the other hand is in a lot of ways built for Smash.

Does no one use the Pro controller?
Well I use it for mk8 pretty consistently and i can say it feels really nice. I think it's honestly one of nintendos best controllers

As for smash though I've only used it twice from when i went to the best buy event, it did feel a little awkward since i've been using the gc controller since melee but the same can be said for mario kart and as i said before it feels GREAT now with mk8. I also used a 360 controller to play melee for a few months on dolphin which is a pretty similar set up and it worked pretty well just takes some adjusting.

That being said though i still think the gc controller feels the best for smash it almost feels like its made for it. I think the pro controller is still gonna be a great option but the main bonus to the bundle is it can let you and your friends use all your old controllers as well so you wont have to buy 4 pro controllers. (Not to mention it comes with a brand new gc controller)

Part of the reason I didn't immediately get the Pro controller was because I recently played with the XBOX 360 controller on dolphin with melee and it felt WAY off. And this is coming from someone who thinks the XBOX 360 controller is the best controller ever made. For smash bros the stick feels way too high (as in the stick is too long) which makes changing directions quickly very difficult.

I was hoping the pro controller was essentially just a wireless gamecube controller with more responsive controls and more comfortable. But if it's similar to the xbox controller then even though i normally love the xbox controller, i don't hink the pro is for me.

In terms of how tall this stick is, is is closer to gamecube or xbox?

You are new to Gamecube right? GC controller are just awesome to pros so it depends on you actually.

I bought a Gamecube in 2001. Why? I'm more interested in knowing about the Wii Pro controller (compared to GC) which I haven't used.

It's definitely not as high as the 360 controller but it does feel slightly higher then the gc pad. Not by much though, Im holding both right now and can hardly feel the difference hight wise though the pro controller is much more smoother i guess? Like i have to put more force into moving the gc stick then the gamepad one.

Honestly I think if you can you should give it a try I know most best buys have mk8 set up with it. That way you can try it and get a feel for the controller yourself but then again its not smash so it might not be able to address your concerns.

I also can't speak for the fightpad quality since i haven't used one but it's more of hybrid between the two. If that's what you're looking for you might want to look into it.

Me too, but hey, I like the GC contoller so why do you have to use the Wii U pro if you already mastered it?

Because the GC controller isn't wireless. And if the Wii U pro controller is better, why drop $100 on a bundle?

Though the way it's sounding the Pro controller might not be as good, so I might go with the bundle after all.

Woah, fightpad? I've never even heard of that. Is it Japanese only?

December 31, 2014?! I want it for Christmas or for my birthday, not for New Year's Eve.

No! It's just not out yet unfortunately. You CAN preorder them if you're really interested though but I'd personally wait for some reviews first. They're also like $25 so they're a bit cheaper then a pro controller.

Is it possible to buy the Gamecube controller adapter and brand-new Gamecube controllers separately? My old Gamecube controllers are kinda worn out and the control sticks are seemingly misaligned even though I didn't touch them when turning on the console.

Are you talking about this Smash 4 bundle?

Because I've noticed with that website, ANY time you see a release date of Dec 31st, that's just a placeholder date and not the real date. It will likely be released at the exact same time as the game, whenever that is.

Yeah, I was talking about that one. So it's only a placeholder... good to know!

Yeah. You can guy them seperately but it's not a very good idea.

Seperately it's $19.99 for the adapter and $29.99 for the smash 4 controller and $59.99 for the game. So that's $109.97 total.

You save like $10 by getting the bundle mentioned earlier.

I think he is getting the bundle regardless, but he was wondering if you could buy more controllers separately for friends. Which you can! (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Hmmmm... sneaky, Nintendo... not that it bothers me... they discounted the Mario Kart DLC 1+2 even though they cost more when sold separately. I will give it a thought.

I don't think it's sneaky so much as they're basically giving you a discount for buying the bundle.

That's generally the purpose for bundles in the first place. They give you a discount to give you incentive for buying more stuff then you potentially may have otherwise.

No one has ever used the pro controller with Smash since it's not compatible with Brawl.

It only works with Wii U games.
Oh. But I thought Wii U was backward compatible and played Wii games? Did they make the software purposely block use for WIi games for no reason?

On the Wii U there's a "wii menu" app that basically takes you to an emulated wii to play wii games. So most wii u accesorys don't run on it. The only reason i used one because they had pro controllers set up at the best buy event for smash.

Wow. It's ridiculous they couldn't just make the controllers backward compatibles as well. What's their deal?

Welp, after all this wait it looks like there's not going to be a console bundle.

I guess I should go ahead and get the crappy $300 bundle that comes with that non-3D mario game. MEH.
