Should I be wavedashing landing in this manor or stick to the old

My question is sort of simple but I can't seem to track down an answer, so I thought I'd just ask. A typical wavedash from start to finish for me is X+dodge and bottom left on the stick or right obviously depending the direction you want. So that being said I realize if I put the stick bottom left or right and just spam the jump/dodge combo I can avoid the stick imput.

So basically is that a bad habit to form? Is it always better to do the 3 steps and don't cut corners?

Thats the best way to do it, the perfect example of working smarter, not harder
See I thought that would be less work but then I didn't want to be lazy? Just in case that 3 step timing was critical but thanks :) really needed to see if it was the smarter way lol trying to work on my movement alot

There's no need to figure out what's "lazy" and what isn't. If something makes it easier to do with no drawbacks, then by all means do it. Don't make it harder on yourself for no reason.

You can get more distance of of some characters by dash dancing first. I personally always let the stick return to neutral, that way if I need to make any last second decisions I can just do it.

I usually do the full input for each individual wavedash, I feel I have a higher degree of control over my movement that way. I used to wavedash by doing the entire input first (jump > airdodge > angle) without resetting the stick to neutral, but my movement was too slow and 'sticky' in that way. So, now, by doing the whole input for each dash, I can easily dash dance out of wavedash, jump > waveland out of wavedash, or do whatever out of wavedash.

Wavedash in whatever way is most comfortable for you, but know that there are lazy ways of doing it that are considered less effective (such as crouching to wavedash in order to 'skip' the control stick input part of the wavedash).

From me testing some more movement options I found if that when washdashing 1-3 times in a row (example 2 back 1 forward into fair etc) it did help to hold it there but I hold it and sometimes let it reset it seems to me a balance is a good approach to everyone kind of movement in pm amirite

Find the way to do the thing which is most comfortable for you to perform but accomplishes the end result you desire.

i didn't even realize that people let the stick go back to neutral during multiple wavedashes. i guess i could see why but if i'm about to get hit then i'm not gonna be using switzerland DI anyway, and if i did accidentally DI down then i can just tech the hit most of the time.

for some characters like squirtle, I've noticed that smashing the control stick in the diagonal direction as I wavedash gives me a longer wavedash. Is this actually a result of FF momentum being transferred laterally or am I just full of crap?

The lower the angle, the longer the wavedash. So, for longer wavedashes, you want the stick as close to horizontal as possible.

I didn't think keeping it close to horizontal changed anything good thing to know
it makes sense, as far as vector components go. More horizontal velocity in your fall the more in the conversion to the slide.

A longer wavedash isn't always ideal though. You want to be able to control the distance you're getting out of it, so as to capitalize on moving far when chasing or closing a very short gap when comboing.
