For many days I've pondered why isn't Falco's short hop as good as before.

But I did notice that you can still spike but there are many sweetspots and it is easy to only stun the opponent. Why did they amateur Falco?

They didn't "amateur" Falco. He is still hard to use properly.

I don't ever really have trouble getting kills, because as long as I am controlling space properly, I am receiving far less damage than what I am dishing out.
