short hopping

when i short hop i roll my finger off the x button making a loud click sound as opposed to taping the button lightly. my buddy tells my that its slower.

am i alone dooing the clicky technique.

should i join the tap technique ?

I flick my thumbnail against the bottom edge of the X button. It's 100% reliable for me, even with Fox

My brother does it the exact same way! I was actually debating whether or not to start doing it this way

It doesn't matter as long as you're putting in aerials near-FP (frame perfect) with that method when you need to. I use your friend's method, and I do think it's easier, but that's just my opinion.

I do it the same way as you and it works perfectly for me. As long as you know it works, you're good.
