Short hopping and aerial momentum problem

So, I've played ssb4 for a while, mainly with Sheik. I have been using X/Y to short hop and A-button to do aerials, I also turned tap jump off because I accidentaly jumped when I tried u-tilt for instance. Correct me if Im wrong but to fully maintain your aerial momentum you should use the c-stick to do aerials. So, should I use c-stick insted of A to do aerials even when short hopping, and maybe turn on the tap jump and use the control-stick to jump/short hop (can be hard tho) since it's a bit tricky to use c-stick to attack and X/Y to short hop constantly? Any help is greatly appreciated!

To perfectly preserve momentum when doing aerials you need to have your c-stick set to Attack instead of Smash Attack and use your c-stick to do aerial attacks. You don't need to have tap jump on for this. I have tap jump off and use the Z button to jump, although that's a bit weird getting used to.

Yep, to use Z button as jump sounds a bit tricky getting used to indeed

Using C-Stick for your Aerials makes some a lot easier, for example SH-Uair with Tap Jump on, or retreating Fairs / approaching Bairs. That is likely what you heard when you read about preserving momentum (there was a bug with C-Stick resetting your momentum when configured as Smash Attack, but from the way you say it, it doesn't sound like that's what you meant).

Using a shoulder button as Jump sounds tricky getting used to, but honestly nothing stops you from just doing that and still using Y/X to jump while just tapping the shoulder button in situations where you want your thumb somewhere else.

Good points, might just set Z to jump and slowly getting used to it without immediate change and see how I adapt. I find it hard to firmly SH with the control-stick while performing attacks so I need to use either X/Y or Z button to jump (if it works out for me).

Edit: Of course I could use tap jump in some scenarios.

This is not true. You just need to flick the c-stick faster to keep your momentum. (Not even that fast either)
If your c-stick is set to smash and you hold it, doing an arial, then you'll lose your momentum.
No need to set c-stick to attack though.

Yeah, you're right. But having c-stick to attack just feels much better imo. Also, if you have attack on the c-stick, you can perform N-airs by tilting the stick diagonally.
