Sure you can shl, its a vital tactic for any of those who use the bird of prey, but i wanna get some opinions on what you all transition into after you shl your way close enough to an opponent...what do you follow your shl up with when your opponent is shielding?....not shielding? gimme your full combo/plan. :p

In my opinion, SHL into a grab works wonders on shields. uh, if you want to try your luck, you can SHL into an fsmash. a good time to do that is when they're coming down and about to land. the SHL will keep them from teching and you can fsmash them. it's awesome :)

Generally, it depends on one thing: whether or not the opponent is in the air. If he is in the air, SHL -> Fsmash, or, for floaties, dtilt if he's close enough is fun. However, if the opponent is on the ground, shielding or not shielding, I mix up a few things such as SHL -> Dair or Nair through him or play the safer route and SHL-> Ftilt to try and keep spacing while possibly hitting your opponent. Mainly, though, I like to SHL -> Dash attack *Through* the shield, and Utilt once behind, assuming the dash attack didn't hit my opponent. From here, you can sh dair into a shine combo or utilt combo depending on percentages.
That's just my two cents though ^_^ I hope others can throw out some good ideas.

um I think the point of shl is that you can follow it up with ANYTHING hence its versatility. SHL into f/d smash is usually only a good idea against opponents at higher percentages... or against complete noobs as they will fall for it every time and you probably shouldn't be playing them to improve anyways. SHL to any sort of shffl is an obvious choice (with dair and nair being the most popular options) just don't get predictable with it its very easy to catch on to a pattern of shl shl dair every time.... even though it is very tempting to spam just as shl to f smash might be the first time you ever learn shl. if you get in close enough you can go straight for a shine believe it or not, d tilt can work wonders as well.... i mean the possibilities are endless the real trick is to learn how to space with it properly and set it up correctly, and don't forget to rshl often as well, great for retreating/mindgames etc.

Generally, I use SHL to keep pressure on the opponent as they or I retreat (run forward during the wind up animation jump then rshl), or when I am landing from any sort of full or short jump I'm not planning to do a aerial move to, sometimes it's used to fill the gaps but I always try never to be in range of anything when I'm not moving with it, and SHL -> Grab is VERY effective.

All in all, spam it vs marth kthx.

SHLing into a lot of things works. I like mind games with SHL, like approaching with SHL, then waveland/dash (land probably won't work =/ ) backwards, into a forward smash, or wavedash back, then into some shine combo.

generalmente, when they're flying in one direction low above the ground pretty slowly, like if you do a dair at a decent percent and they di one way, I usually run after em, shl to make them stop right in front of me, then upsmash. Its a sweet *** combo because it sounds sweet and they dont know what hit them.

There's basically a multitude of things you can do with a SHL approach.

SHL to grabs to d/f/u throw.
SHL to dsmash
SHL (against player in air) to fsmash
SHL to dtilt (anyone with high percentage, check the amount their shield covers)
SHL to (if no shield) shine/utilt to full-jump dair, etc.

There's more really. The more creative you get with it, the better your mindgames will be as a result as well.
