I see Mango do it a lot in Genesis 2, he dairs then shines then grabs. Am I looking at this the wrong way? Cause I cant do this technique.

Just think of it as a jump-cancelled grab. It feels the same as a regular JC'd grab, but it follows a shine. Alternatively, you can think of it as simply grabbing before you jump. Every time you jump, there are 5 frames that Falco spends crouched before he actually becomes airborne. It is during those frames that you can input a grab to JC grab.

The buttons you use may vary slightly, but it will end up being some version of: Down-B, Y, Z

If you don't know how to JC grabs yet, just go into training and practice. Run across the stage, and input a jump followed immediately by a grab. You can tell you're doing it right when you don't do your running grab (which is slower, hence the whole reason for using JC'd grabs).

Control stick is generally much faster for JC out of shine, just press Up + Z after down-b

If you are new to falco or the game in general then I suggest you go to the falco stickied thread among others to learn stuff. I don't know how updated those are though...

I guess I could just be really bad at getting from B to jump, but whatever

I use B -> Y and have no issues. Assuming you didn't whiff the shine, you have 4 frames of hitlag to get to Y, which shouldn't be too hard with practice.

i feel like it's trickier to be simultaneous with the control stick.... cuz it's a control stick

either way, this technique and double shine are two that i think every falco should have in their mix-up game. extremely effective stuff. and shine grab is fairly easy to pull off once you first get the hang of it.

Once you are able to JC Grab it's pretty easy to shine-grab. I suggest JC Grab out of the shine the same way you do a regular JC Grab. Control-stick up and Z can be hit faster when Shine-grabbing, but it's not the most consistent as you might up-b and it's not ideal to do control-stick up and Z to do regular JC Grab. Either Y or X is fine. If you're starting out, I suggest choosing Y because it's closer to B and might help with other techniques.

That being said, whatever feels comfortable for you is the method you should use.
