This is just a question, since I lack experience, would a shine into grab ( or on occasion shine into Uair and grab ) Be a good idea? I do it alot, but I could never think of a situation where is would call for, it really seems like im ending a combo. in self defense I would say a shine into a grab would be a good control move, shine, then DI away from the edge, and biznitch I just grabbed your ***, and if luck serves he will DI to the edge and a well placed Dair might end his stock. Again though I want to discuss this just in case I might be ignorant to the way of the falco.

It doesn't matter what percentage you start to shine. Shining is integral to combos, use them whenever appropriate.

As for shine > grab, you won't see it often because it is not very effective. From what I've learned and notice, Falco's grab game is simplistic and a bit weak. The down throw is very predictable, cause your opponent to tech. You can tech chase, or as many have, replace dthrow with any others, all of which are not reliable or amazing.

Stick with shffl + shine combos.

im sorry thats not what i meant,,, i mean, randdomly sihne grabbed a person just like once to freak the crap out of them
well in that case i guess it would be ok to do that.

but falcos grab game is like not even that good. i would jus go with the waveshine> follow up

i might experiment with this technique

EDIT: i thought u meant just falco's shine, but u meant the shine>grab. i misread ur post

Falco's grab can be easy to get if you use it effectively. Shl laser to grab, when someone is on the edge just stay away and spam laser then grab -> fthrow them off. Just always assume they are going to DI away from the upthrow to follow up the combo until they DI towards you more than twice in a row.

Drillshine to grab is effective if your opponent gets caught in pillaring and doesn't react very fast (doesn't roll out after the first shine often). Although I think if they try to shieldgrab you most of the characters in the game will grab you first.

Shinegrab is great to use if the shine misses them. Look at the spacing and determine if they were a little too far away. Also shine to upsmash out of it on a shield usually pushes you away from the opponent and depending on their grab range it can be an effective way to mix up getting out of grab range on a whiffed shine a little less than a JCed grab but its still nice to use on occation.

I usually Shine grab if someone begins to sheild my Pillar. If I'm feeling lucky, I'll Shine -> JC Shine -> JC Grab -> Fthrow -> Shffl Nair/SHL -> follow-up.

You should mostly only shine into grab when pillaring and expect them to roll away or attempt a grab themselves.

It has no real uses vs crouch canceling, because you are much better off JC'ing into another shine instead, mostly because this will put them into the air for you.
