Shine b-air

I can only seem to land this when I hit with the bottom part of my shine and my back is right next to the opponent. Otherwise I seem to kick under them or behind my opponent. Am I simply too slow, or do you really have to aim where your shine is when you do this?

My goal with this is to shine b-air to land some kills after my juggles. My main problem is I don't get high enough with my full hop in order to hit him with the bottom part of my shine. Following DI can make shining on the correct horizontal side a little tricky as well.

Tech skill has never really been a strong suit to my game, but I'm trying to work on it.

well obviously hitting with the bottom of your shine is better. but you can land shine-bair off of almost any shine as long as your opponent isn't at very high percents. just try doing it faster.

It's not so much about aiming your shine as it is following their DI after the shine.
If you follow their DI correctly, you should do a strong hit with your bair no matter which way you're facing and no matter where you hit with the shine.
Also, if you aren't doing so already, jump with the control stick after the shine. That should solve any speed problems you have.

I have another related question.

Is there a timing change when you shine nothing and when you hit something with the shine?

When I shine nothing, I seem to be able to cancel it quickly with more consistency then if I try and hit something.

Also, this only occurs when I use X/Y to cancel. Tap Jump doesn't seem to change

try holding B longer, you can always cancel when holding B and jumping

yes landing a shine means you will be stuck in it longer for a few frames during which you can't jump. turning around also takes a few frames. if you shine in the air w/out connecting you can jump out of it on the 2nd frame i believe. not sure but i think stick jump is the same as x/y. maybe you just can't yet push the stick up fast enough to jump before the hit-stun ends idk ill check this.

FYI if you ever land a shine and want to turn-around back air
you first land the shine ->
wait for the hit-stun to end ->
turn around ->
wait for that animation to end -> second thought i don't think you need to wait here
jump ->
bair.

the number of frames you need to wait is very small, but can mess things up if you do the next step too early. shine turnaround bair as fox is amazingly difficult to pull off

and mister Gambino (and anyone else to whom it may concern, cause i dont think this is your problem) make sure you shine when in the air. jumping out of shine on the ground means you will spend some time in the jumping animation still stuck on the ground.

Thanks, my problem was trying to do it too fast, I wait a tiny bit longer and it works great.

Here's something most falco's don't tell you

You only land Shine Bair if you catch your opponent when they're not DI'ing

Is it possible to hit a marth who's at 85% + before the shine b-air by hitting the upper part of my shine? I just tried again for like an hour, and I haven't had success, lol. I can do it fine at lower percentages, but I'm wanting to land this for a ko. Otherwise I would rather try and continue my shine combos.

probably

also yeah shine-bairs kinda suck if your opponent DIs well. i always land the weak part of the bair but that's kinda not worth it as opposed to just nairing or something

Can be good to use when you see a hole in your opponents shield pressure. Best used in Falco dittos imo and you will probably catch them off-guard so they wont DI.

Shine bair can be done up to like 600% on a peach. Try to do an aerial shine as you are able to jump cancel those much faster.

Theoretically, if you're fast enough it shouldn't matter which way your opponent DIs because you should hit them before they get hit fair anough to avoid your hit. It's also possible to shine dair.

it does matter somewhat. if you hit them and they DI away from your shine youll hit with a weaker part of your bair. especially if they SDI it, which I've seen people do, they you miss or get almost no knockback... it sucks.
