In the beginning it took a little bit of getting used to, but then it was easy.

Am I the only one that likes the 3DS control scheme? It fits my hand rather nicely haha.

Maybe coming from melee and a preference to Gamecube controls is the problem. Or that I don't own a DS and that I just play on others peoples handhelds.

I honestly love the 3DS as a controller and might still use it whenever I get a Wii U, however my only problem is that it's difficult to perfect pivot with the circle pad. On the topic of shielding, It's not that I forget to but my flaw is that I don't hold it long enough usually. :/

Eh, I've never had much difficulty getting used to controls.

My hands are a little small, so shielding required an awkward shift of my hand to do. So I assigned shield to one of my jump buttons (I only use one of them anyway) and it became much easier.

That may be it, I never owned a Gamecube, and outside of a few times while visiting friends, i never really got into Melee either so i have virtually no experience with the GC controller. Smash3DS was my first time getting invested in SSB so i've gotten pretty accustomed to the 3DS layout and with the Wii U version i find myself favoring the Pro controller because of the similar layout.
