Shield Dropping

I've found this technique to be way more difficult to pull of consistently than in melee. I can get it most of the time, but about 20% of the time I end up either spot dodging or angling my shield downward. Does anyone have any tips to pulling this off consistently? I feel like a once great technique feels useless due to the precision required in pulling it off.

I'm guessing this is dropping through a platform when shielding without going through the standing "shield drop" animation. This is something I'd like to know too as 80% of the time I end up spot dodging/angling shield.

yes, it is dropping through a platform while shielding. In melee this could be accomplished by holding the control stick all the way in one direction and then moving it down one "notch". However in this game the only way I can figure out to do it is by shielding and moving the control stick down at a very precise speed. Too fast and you spot dodge, too slow and you angle your shield downwards.

Threads like these are too common.

Just keep practicing. There are no shortcuts or estimates for you to weigh one against the other. Put the time into the lab.

Seems like too much trouble to go though just to save a few frames.
7 to be exact and aren't you forced to do an aerial? If you are punishing can't you just jump out of sheild instead unless your character doesn't have a fast enough aerial. Well you would also be going down to I guess.

What am I even practicing though? When I do it, I don't know what I did differently from when I don't. Practicing the wrong way is counter productive. I'm not looking for a shortcut, I'm just looking for the road.

I'm assuming you mean dropping through a platform whilst shielding? If so, I feel it's a viable technique and it's something I'd like to learn as well.

Tips on how to practice it would be nice, I'm unsure how to. 90% of the time I either tilt my shield or spotdodge.

I'm not looking for a shortcut, I want to know if it's even possible to perform consistently in this game or if I'm just wasting my time.

It seems like it might be the most difficult to preform in this game than in previous games, but the method is the same.

You have to move the stick fast enough to register as a platform drop, but if you move the stick too far it counts as a sidestep.

It's probably too difficult to rely on unless you have really precise fingers. (I can't get it consistently.)

The key is moving at a constant pace downward. Stuttering or speeding up will both mess it up. It also needs to be fairly quick. Be assertive with it.

Can you do it consistently? Like 99% of the time? As long as I know it's possible I'll keep practicing.
