the way i shuffl u-airs with Roy is, SH with Y > up on C-stick > fastfall > L-cancel

it's really simple, i don't see how you're accidently using your 2nd jump unless you are trying to u-air with A, which i only recommend doing with DJC characters.

He could also be using tap jump to jump. Some people do this.
Yup. If this is the case, and you don't use c-stick, then after you short hop keep the control stick tilted up slightly. Then you just press A and input a fastfall, while of course pressing the left or right shoulder button to L-cancel. It can be a little tricky but it's well worth the practice.

The way I do it is Kaizo's method, except I use tap jump instead of Y.

Yeah, I'd recommend doing it with y (or whatever jump button you choose) and c stick. I'm not saying you have to turn tap jump off, but I'd heartily recommend NOT using tap jump to short hop, ever. It's possible to get it consinstently, but imo, it makes it much harder and gives less margine for error. However, using c-stick is a MUST for aerials. If you use a direction and a, you are drifting in that direction limiting your mobility options in the air.

(P.S. I'm not biased against tap jump, I actually keep it on. However, I only use it to meteor cancel, full hop, recover, etc. I always short hop, wavedash etc. with y.)

As everyone else said, learn to do aerials with the C-stick. Muscle memory can take some time, but it is worth it in spade.

Alternatively you can learn the muscle movement to angle the stick up without jumping. It's important to do for quick uptilts anyway.

Cstick has the most applications, but you can't do instant uairs with cstick, so learning all of them is important.

You can do instant up-airs with the c-stick if you use y for the short hop and the right part of your palm/but of your thumb to push the c-stick up. I press y as I slide my thumb off it to the up/left as my hand pushedsup on c-stick. In melee I can instant up-air a standing fox with the method. I also do my side-aerials with this part of my hand and they come out fast enough for short hop double fairs with Marth and short-hop bairs into wave-land with doc.

Claw also lets you do instant up-airs with the c-stick.

I understand the pain. I still have a problem with it >_< (all my fault though!)

Just keep practicing! I use x for mine, and i just kind quickly swipe my thunb across it, but with fast jumpers (i main falcon) it sometimes still isnt fast enough xP
