Since rolling is a very powerful option in this game, I have been wondering how sheik can utilize her great roll.
Given that her roll and aerials are very safe, is fair to roll behind safe on characters that don't have a move that can cover them from the behind?

I never really apply rolls like that. To be honest I don't even know when/how/why I use rolls, but I don't overuse them that's for sure. I used to roll a lot when I panic but I stopped that habit and even if I resort to it while in a game I'd often quickly realize it and abandon it immediately.

That being said Sheik's fair can be made to be safe on shield regardless. So you could just fair on their shield repeatedly and they can't really do anything about it. They can't shield grab and we can usually cover their OoS options with the fair thanks to the disjoint, depends on the characters.

Well-spaced Fair to jab, ftilt, or dtilt can also be made safe on shield (maybe not so much jab but definitely the other 2) so I find Fair to roll kinda... unnecessary

I've seen Zero implement fair roll behind on characters like ZSS (most notably Nairo vs Zero at CEO 2015). Perhaps it could be for better positioning for a punish. When you fair a tether grab character's shield (ZSS, Link, and Lucas), and they try to grab, you could roll behind and charge a forward smash or any punish of your liking.

One thing I like to do with Sheik is to run, do a B-Reverse, and then immediately press the direction I was running again. Since she can roll out of her needles, this will essentially cause Sheik to do a hard to predict roll thanks to the b-reverse causing some mischievous movement right before the roll goes off.

Otherwise, her roll seems to have standard (yet effective) uses.

That's most likely a bait by Zero then. ZSS has a pretty terribly slow grab so baiting her for it can lead into a sweet delicious punish, which is pretty smart. Might be what zero was doing.

I think that fairing to roll on tether characters can be a great tool if they have a habit of shield grabbing. Many players are accustomed to shield grabbing anyway, so if you see they have a habit even if you're spacing, then go crazy with fair roll and enjoy your free forward smash.

But if you space your fair properly you won't ever get shield grabbed. So if they are trying to grab the air you get a free punish anyway. Also @ tronfox64 tronfox64 I never thought of using the wave-needle to do a tricky roll, thats brilliant
