first off let me just say that i'm definitely no professional in typography however i'm obsessively attentive to detail and i use paint.net

the generator in libertyernie's stage tool is inaccurate
the template someone posted here a good while back is inaccurate (http://puu.sh/nbVvO/b22eb229e2.psd)

the impact/genuine font actually looks like it's correct and 21.5 pt is correct however only for the first letter
doing slight research i find that there at least isn't an easily accessible small caps variant of impact/genuine

and even if i manually create it with a 21.5 pt capital and 16 pt small caps, every letter, even bold seems to be about 3-6 pixels too thin. the bottom line of pixels across the entire name needs to be faded, also. on that point though, it might just be paint.net not rendering the text properly (using smooth rendering, others are so obviously inaccurate)

now it's been a decently long time since i've been away from pm mods, has anyone successfully recreated it or should i learn how to make a font and create it?

I posted my method for doing this in another thread the other day. It sounds like you're looking for something more exact than this though. (I get within 2 or 3 pixel accuracy on each letter. Also I don't use any bold text, but the font is set to "strong").

Here's what I do. In photoshop (any program would probably work) I type the name in 18 point Genuine font, all caps. Then I change the first letter of each word (or whatever words are capitalized) to 24 point. Then I resize it horizontally to about 140%, stretching or contracting depending on how long the name is.

I literally spent like 5~8 hours last week in Gimp making my own custom stage names cuz I dont know an easier method to making them. Plus, I wanted to use a custom font and ad alt stage names in a smaller font size.

i will attempt this and see how the results fare for me. however i've already started the process of creating a bitmap font, i honestly hope that this will be decently accurate. i'd really hate to abandon paint.net, but it's also possible that it's one of my problems as well.

an idea that had been floating in my mind for a couple of months now might help you with that. i haven't tested it at all because of varying hobbies taking my time but you could probably replace the series logo with the alt stage name. it would look decent as it's subtle and moderately close to the alt preview. but you'd be giving up the series logo which maybe some people really like? idk it was an idea i had but i don't think i'd personally do it

Thats interesting. I think I would have to mess with the Pat0 mappings to have that work though. On my custom ones, I need to redo them because I had the capitol letters at 52 font (too big) and the alt stage names at 16 font (too small). If you make a template with gridlines its actually really not bad making custom ones.
