It has come to my attention that a lot of Smashers feel that Sakurai got lazy and just added clones to Brawl to fill it up.

I come here with proof that this is not so.

First and most important:

It appears that the so called "clones" all have radically different [A] Movesets

Some examples:

Falco appears to have Multihit swipes for aerials and a cross chop for a F-smash
Wolf has Bigger Punches and he's Usmash is a handstand upwards kick
Fox has... well the fox moveset

Ness relies on kiddy punches and yo-yo attacks (same as in melee)
Lucas goes extravagant using PSI augmented physical attacks and the snake rope

Captain Falcon is still the "Show me your moves" dude we all love
Ganondorf got some roundhouse kicks that Falcon would kill for, and some nasty punches

Link is the sword and shield hero that fanboys adore
Toon Link is the most cloneish clone animation wise, but he's attacks all have different properites.

As for the Moves, it appears that they share the same base move, but properties are altered (and in some cases act extremely different)

Wolf's blaster acts more like a ray gun while Falco packs dualies.
Falco's Shine is extremely different its thrown and shines repeated times in the air
Wolf's illusion makes him move at an angle.

Lucas' PSI moves are generally faster and do faster damage (but less damage overall)

Ganondorf's UP+B appears to be a mix of the dive and an Uppercut of some sorts

Toon Link's boomerang has no tornado, and he's spin recovery is VERY different it moves sideways before going up.

Those are just a few examples of how the Clones are more original than you think, and can very well play nothing like the other.

Please give them a chance and I'm sure that you will like them with time ^_^

Ganondorf deserved a complete makeover, and after TWO delays they had the time to do it. There is no excuse for that.

Hmmmm. VERY interesting. My first thought about clones was "Awww man! Sakurai, why?" But I now realize that they are much less carbon-copied in this game. Specially my man Falco with his dual blasters and throwable shine!! Still, they could've had different FSes, that's the only thing that seems a bit lazy to me. I mean, Fox, Falco, and Wolf all have IDENTICAL FSes!! Could've had a bit more variety. Still, I'm satisfied with the roster, unlike a few people I know!

What annoys me is not the fact they have clones, but the fact they have cloned characters who have such a substantial history that it's not needed at all. Falco/Wolf could have used lasers/explosives from Assault, and the Arwing/Wolfen for their FS', or Falco uses his Arwing and Wolf calls his team to bomb the stage, providing more cameos. Toon Link could have ben much better too. Since they cloned and Luigified G'Dorf from FALCON, the least they ould do is clone people seperately. For instance, Toon Link's instead-of moveset:
B: Arrow, like Link, further reach/charge speed, less damage?
<>B: Skull Hammer, like Kirby's but more power/knockback, less speed?
^B: Hurricane Slash, like Link, but less power but can travel side-to-side on the ground, akin to Luigi Tornado?
VB: Deku Leaf, mix of Mario's Cape and FLUDD, use quickly to deflect projectiles/low damage, charge for a blast of wind/further knockback?

FS: Wind Waker
Does a few fancy motions, calls up a huge tornado, sucks everybody in and then blasts them out. Same effect as Kirby's FS minus the items and appearance.

That took me minutes to come up with, and if I knew more history about the Wind Waker games than I could make a more interesting one. But essentially, EVERY move is cloned. Just from different characters. Why THIS couldn't have been done instead of just C&Ping a straight moveset is beyond me.

I like TheLastHero's Toon Link moveset, but I would shift his hurricane slash to down B, and the Deku Leaf to up b, so he could float back to the stage(like he did in WW). That FS would be awesome.

The way I see it, no clones are ever played the same(Except maybe Mario/Doc, they were a bit too similar) so if he was able to throw in a few extra characters at the sacrifice of complete originality, so what? You're getting more characters! It's not like he removed characters and replaced them with clones.

Well, he could use the Deku Leaf to descend from using UpB anyway, like Peach, and now G&M do. Still a cloned idea!

What gets me is the fact Sakurai seems to love clones, yet he takes the one character MEANT to be a clone OUT of Brawl?! I'm of course referring to Mewtwo. Ironic.

Funny that Link got luigified. Toon Link would have deserved own specials, ones that were named there, just to show that Link is not just bombs, boomerangs and arrows.
