I am a 12 year old boy who is mastering/learning Project M. I recently saw who/waht Karissa the Destroyer was, so I decided to try and show the smash community if I am good or ok, what should I improve on. Please give suggestions. (I have a feeling that the video may be de synced.) Thanks - Collin

1 small thing karrisa the destroyer was a fake thing it was actually KoreanDJ playing but that's beside the point.

Fundamental tech skill is incredibly important for a quick character like Marth. His DashDance (DD) is among the best in the game and helps immensely with weaving in and out of ranges. I saw that you knew how to DD but weren't really using it for it's purpose. Mindless DD doesn't really help anything, but mindful DD is usefull as hell. Wavedash is also incredibly important for marth. Because the WD is so long it gives marth tons of ground movement options with weaving DD and Dash Forward WD Back also for weaving and baiting. In general L-Cancel is important for all characters and is really just a thing you need to get used to.

Now onto advice on playing. I noticed right off the bat that you like approaching with an aerial like fair or nair. Now while it may be tempting to approach all the time and get it done, with Marth's huge ass sword you need to make use of it. And because right off the bat I noticed you approach with an aerial I already know an easy way to punish as you were almost immediately by that CPU bowser. Better players than me will capitalize on that stuff mid match and punish accordingly. But in general a main goal with Marth is to not approach and force you're opponent to approach or forcing them to the edge with DD and pressure of his range. I made a melee thread a little bit ago asking about approaching with marth and I was told that same advice. If you want to look at it it's called "Stuggling with Approaches"

Good luck

EDIT: What Panda said is also very true. You can find you're community in the boards around here if you don't have anyone to play with

So how would I approach? Also how could I play with anyone? I can rarely find anyone online, and searchign for friend codes are a pain in the ass.

And do you know any good recorders? OBS is ok, but when I try to increase the quality, the recording lags like ****. (Although for some weird reason the game is not?)

You go to thread like 3 above this that has 100+ posts daily called 'wifi matchmaking'.

Also didnt watch but this belongs in project m > character discussion > marth > video thread (every character has a 'post your video for critique' thread)

I'm a Falco main, but the same concept applies for every character on what I'm about to tell you.

The one thing you need to consider is that you're playing against a CPU. In your video I don't really see any tech being applied, unless you're playing like Borp, someone who doesn't rely on advanced tech skill. Also, my initial impression from that video is that you still have a lot to learn. I can't really tell what you need to improve on unless you specify more. Do you want to gain more tech skill like L-cancelling wavedashing, etc., or just stick with regular fundamentals?

One of the biggest tips I can give is for you to research and struggle. Research "Marth" on YouTube and just watch every video that shows someone playing him. It shouldn't matter if it's Melee or PM because the skills learned transfer from one to the other. I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to Falco, but trust me in that there is always something new to learn. Unless you understand how the person did what he/she did, never disregard that video. Make a Chrome/Firefox folder, and just bookmark everything to look at later.

One of the other big tips I can give you is to start using the PC notepad to take notes. Every time you see something interesting or see something that just amazes you, go to your notepad and type it down, then practice it by yourself.

Other than that, I can give you some links to get you started. I'll try to link everything that has to do with Marth, though it doesn't matter with some videos. If you watch one of the videos I linked and don't understand something, research it more on YouTube or make a thread here.

For both links, toggle the spoiler for Marth. There's no real major changes to him, so don't worry about his differences in 3.0 and 3.5. If you want to know, click here and look for Marth's changelist.

If you want some real inspiration, look up PPMD for Melee and Axe for Project M. Axe's PM Marth can be found in the PM 3.0 link.

I main Marth, though turning my attention to Falco.
