Secondary for Fox Mains

Who do you think is a good secondary for Fox? I used to have Shiek as a 2nd but a few weeks ago I decided to switch to Pikachu. Well, I don't like the way he is made. So I wanted to ask who you have as 2nd and who you think would be a good second. Or do you even think you can solo main fox and you don't necessarily need a 2nd?

If you really focus on Fox, he could easily be used as a solo main. Personally though, a lot of his MUs swing back and forth and can be way too close for comfort, which is why I secondary Mario, since he handle some of the MUs more easily than Fox can, while having the same combo-based playstyle that I like.

Mario is a good choice for a secondary, because he's fairly easy to pick up and imo is better at the Rosalina matchup.

But I also think that Fox is good enough to be solo-mained. He's really only got a couple of matchups that are bad, and he's decent against Sheik and ZSS so that's a plus.

Which are the bad fox MU that mario is better at?
Rosalina is definitely easier for Mario than Fox, and Luigi is probably easier for Mario as well. Most MUs depend on your personal preference though (for example, I prefer the Mario vs. Sonic MU over the Fox vs. Sonic MU).

My best secondary is Robin. I'm not sure if he does better in Fox's bad MUs but I just feel more comfortable fighting Rosa/Luigi etc. with Robin than with Fox.

But this is a hard duo to pull off because Fox and Robin are both some of the hardest characters to play so playing them both at the same time can stretch you a little far, so Mario is probably better.

My history of picking a second main to go along with fox is long and has only recently come to a conclusion.
I started with Marth to mimic a PPMD style play with Falco/Marth mains in Melee. Since Falco is hardly viable in this game and I've mained fox in past games, I decided I'd use him in Smash 4.

I quickly found Marth to be obsolete and understood why he was considered such a low tier in this game. From there I tried Diddy Kong. Diddy Kong is a good character however didn't work well with Fox. I then went pikachu, followed by meta knight, and I have finally settled on Fox/Roy. It has the same feel that I'm comfortable with. (Spacy and Disjoint) and I feel that they help to a certain degree the matchups that the other struggles with.

A character with a disjointed hitbox is what I have found to work best in conjunction with Fox. I myself have only gone up against a handful of Rosalinas, so I'm not entirely sure why it's such a bad matchup for Fox (I'd love if someone could message me and explain to me why it's such a bad MU and what fox should do to win)

At the end of the day it boils down to preference. if there are certain matchups you don't feel comfortable with then pick up another character accordingly, but I would definitely experiment for yourself until you reach your comfort zone.
