Hey, I was thinking about the organization of larger tournaments, and I'm a bit stuck on how I should be handling round robin pools, more specifically, how I can balance the amount of pools with the amount of people per pool and the amount of people who get out of their pool without making the resulting bracket too large or restricting the amount of people getting out too much.
Let's say, hypothetically, I had an 86 person turnout. Should I be looking to seed a bracket that is exactly a power of two? For example, if I wanted to seed top 32, I could make 12 pools of 5 and 4 pools of 6 with two coming out of each pool, but I feel like these are pretty small pools. Alternatively, if I wanted the top player in each pool to receive a bye, I could make 10 pools of 7 and 2 pools of 8 with 4 coming out of each, but then my bracket would be top 48, which I feel is a bit large.
Basically, I'd like to ask more experienced TOs how they handle pool divisions as turnouts get bigger.
