sc_selcharacter.pac error

Sorry if I sound noobish. But my game freezes when I am about to reach the character select screen *solo and multi* I had replaced sonics portraits, and the name sonic*under sonics portraits* ,with shadows using brawl box, and I put the sc_selcharacter.pac in "private>Wii>APP>RSBE>pf>menu2. But when I click Brawl, or special brawl or classic mode or training or etc. it freezes. *I also have the sc_selmap.pac but I don't think its the problem considering that it would freeze after choosing the characters and press start, thus reaching the stages select.* :( :c

P.S. I am not using Riivolution. I do obtain Brawl plus though.

it seems ur selcharacter pac is over it's file size limit with those replaced portraits.

to reduce it, do what i do:

~export out pictures in your selcharacter you don't care about/don't bother looking at
~edit them in paint, make it look like a 3-yr old created it. XD
~find and replace them back in using brawlbox

good luck, and the file size limit of the selcharacter pac is 3.79 MB. :D

There is, but you can heavily reduce the file size of common5.pac by removing the MotionEtc archives.

Squirtle and Charizard will not be affected at all if you remove the MotionEtc archives from common5.pac, since they already have those files in their own folders.

Blahman179 is right. and about the file size limit, I could delete charizards pac files and squirtles also since i never actually hack them. it is worth a shot.

OMG, so what your saying is I can remove the MotionEtc files to reduce the size so I can use csp's?

Anyone got some in-depth info on how to do that?

With BrawlBox, choose the archive that you want to delete. Next, press Ctrl + Delete on your keyboard. The selected archive will then be removed.

The maximum file size for common5.pac is 11.6 MB if I recall correctly.

It still froze though, I have nothing but the sc_selcharacter.pac and the sc_selmap.pac in the common5.pac I am thinking the sc_selcharacter.pac is to big maybe because I exported them anf moved them to menu2 in the pf folder and it still froze.

Don't worry, I tried using sc-selcharacter.pac too, and it still froze.

Maybe we just can't use csp's for some reason.

Would you happen to use Brawl+ by any chance?

You didn't delete the sc_selcharacter2_en archive from common5.pac, did you? That archive must stay in common5.pac at all times.

Regarding B+, I don't use B+, which might be the reason why I've been able to do custom CSS and custom portraits without any serious issues.

i used to use brawl+ before brawl-, but i never had a csp problem i couldn't solve myself.

I have nothing but the sc_selcharacter.pac and the sc_selmap.pac in the common5.pac
did u delete EVERYTHING except those two in the common5? if so, go get a fresh common5 right now. XD

i wouldn't recommend deleting any of the files in the pacs, cuz u never know what the game might need to load.

one thing i'd do is in a fresh common5.pac, edit the selcharacter as you see fit, then right click, choose "export", put it in the menu2 folder, making sure the size is BELOW 3.79 MB after (if not, use my silly but effective method for reducing it). if ur using Gecko to run the game, delete the "_en" part on the selcharacter pac's name. there shouldn't be any problems. :D

I have absolutely no idea what's wrong anymore.

The file size for common5.pac doesn't exceed 11 MB, I got rid of the motionect.pac files for charizard and ivysaur to make more room, which did nothing tot he game, and the csp's still freeze trying to start a game.

EDIT: W8 a sec.. I have a sc_selcharacter and sc_selcharacter_2 sections in my common5.pac.

It never dawned on me that that's what I was using in common5.pac.

Is there anything I need to do in this situation, or is that normal?

no, don't delete it.
sc_selcharacter.pac by itself overpowers whatever is in common5's selcharacter folder, so it's best to use that one.

I am so confused now, so i exported it and i didnt delete anything, and it still froze, the file size of common5 is the same and the file size of sc_selcharacter.pac is the same, they both arent pass their file size limit.

oh and it froze right when i access one of the events that takes me to choose my character in the character select screen

i might have the fix. can't believe i forgot about this. XD
sc_selmap might be the problem. if it's too big, the game WILL freeze when you press start after choosing characters. try taking selmap out of menu2 and run the game again. if it doesn't freeze, then selmap is too big. try to get it lower than 1.16 MB (or 1.14 MB to be safe).

if that doesn't work, read my super long post in the thread about selcharacter not working.

The problem is not that the fact it freezes after pressing start once choosing my character, because I never got in the character select screen, because it freezes when it loads up *like when I press training mode for single player and it freezes when I clicked it* I am gonna try the idea though, but I think somewhere in my SD card I messed up somewhere, maybe it's the way brawl+ tampered with the CSS *Character Select Screen*
