can anyone help me on this matchup? I especially have trouble dealing w/his arrow spamming and side B move (note to self, do not DI towards pit). also, is there any way that pit can be edgeguarded despite his recovery? I've noticed that samus' killing moves have all gotten a lot weaker in brawl (except b-air and dtilt i guess) so I usually can't kill him until around 140 percent, while his f-smash puts me down for the count at much lower percentage.

I'm far from a versus Pit expert, but here's some things that I've noticed that help versus him.

Cause yes he is a gigantic pain.

1-Keep him in the air anyway you can, at all times possible. Force him to stay in the air, keep him hovering and gliding around. When you have him in the air, wear him down with uair, fair and homing missile spam.
If you see an opportunity to bair or charged shot him, take it.

2- Edgeguarding Pit is generally an exercise in futility unless you have REALLY good charged shot aim. Missile spam is good for forcing him into blowing his upb. Once he blows his upb, hit him anyway you can and try to keep him in the air as I said in number 1.

3-Bthrow to missile spam also works fairly decently against him.

4- If he's on the ground, keep your distance. Yes if you do this he will most likely start arrow spamming you, I haven't figured out a way to effectively counter this other than missile spamming him back. If you figure out better please share. keeping your distance from him works and above all when he is on rhe ground, make him DREAD that dtilt.

5- Try to stay below him if possible, don't get above him. Like you said, DI'ing towards Pit is suicidal. If you get above him, DI away from him towards the edge of the stage with bomb cover and grapple it. NEVER towards him, no exceptions imo.

6- For Ko'ing him, dtilt and charged shot seem to be the best options. Bair works every now and then.

some where in the darkness.
a note on edge gaurding, if hes off the stage and low, spam homing missles, that will cramp his recovery. save your charged shot for ko's. stay close to him, if your getting close to him youd better be behind a missle grabbing him. try to keep him in a position in which he cant spam.

Any updates on this? I just got pwnd by Pit the other day. You might as well not even try any ranged attacks. I think zair is INCREDIBLY important to have any shot at beating a decent Pit user.

I main samus and my friend mains pit, and for the life of me I cant beat him. Arrow spamming, 2 reflector moves, amazing recovery, ect all cramp Samus's style of projectile spamming then moving in for the kill because, frankly, Pit is a monster to approach. Right now I play defensivly against him until I see an opening whereas I'm usually an aggresive player. A good technique is to have correct spacing. Stay far away enough so you can zair and tip him with it, but close enough to make him weary of arrow spamming. Once you hit with that zair rush in and get him in the air, quikly follow up with uair or fair before he uses a dair or air dodges. If he tries to fall away from you homing missile spam him then get him back in the air. Eventually you will get him off the edge where you can finish him with a charged B or missile spam and finish him off with a dair.

Of course this ends up being more difficult than it sounds but its a suggestion, Ill report back when I've found a solid way to beat pit with samus.

First off, Yorenec has given the most accurate advice so far. I tried playing Pit a little to get a feel of how his attacks work. You must know your foe before you can fight effectively.

Now, here are my words of wisdom...

Spacing is the most important thing to consider when facing Pit. Stay far enough from him to avoid his sword slashes but close enough to make him regret drawing his bow.

Always keep moving. I find SHAD to be the best way to approach and retreat. With the above spacing tactic, you should be in perfect zair range. Bother Pit with so many zairs, that it makes him feel that Samus is more broken than Pit. SHAD will also discourage arrow shooting because you can cancel your airdodge at anytime into a zair.

Occasionally, Pit users will try to use B>. That attack is free damage unless you DI backwards. The attack also repels projectiles. DI backwards out of it if you get hit and prepare yourself for a counter attack. Pit will most likely roll dodge backwards after that attack. Dashing shield grab, followed by uair, zair, or fair will add on more damage. Do not use your dash attack to follow Pit's roll dodge. He can put up his shield immediately after his roll ends and punish you with his own grab.

Pit's recovery is different from others. If he gets hit while using B^, he cannot use B^ again. Other characters can. So, to get around this, use zair to snipe him in the air. Missles are too slow to get the job done.

Occasionally, Pit may also sometimes attempt to fly under the stage and recover to the ledge on the opposite side. As soon as you see Pit try to do this, get to the other side asap, and edge hog. As Pit draws closer under you, drop from the ledge and use your tether. If Pit attacks you, he loses his recovery and dies. If he doesn't attack, he gets edge hogged.

Remember to focus on spacing, and Pit should not be able to touch you.
@ TS: You seem to have a good general knowledge of Samus, so I guess I can leave the basics aside.

Just want to add two things:

Samus' zair out-prioritizes almost all projectiles, including Pit's arrows, and can hit just outside of Pit's range, so try spamming it.

When he's off the ledge, just spike him with your dair. His recovery doesn't double as an attack, so all he can do is try to avoid it.

Yeah.. I think Wolf and Pit are Samus' hardest match ups. I suggest.. spamming Zair. Here is a strategy I'm working on (its suppose to be some perfect edge guarding).

Basically, when your trying to keep someone like pit from returning back on stage, yet he has so many jumps that if you edge guard him he'll go right over you and if you try to edge hog him he'll slide right to the edge. You know how Samus can wall jump and spike? Well this is how you combine them, first you edge guard and when he is trying to get back on the stage and is right under/beside you you leave the edge, walljump and the side of the stage and then spike your opponent to his bloody death.

I'm just here to suppost spiking Pit into oblivion. If you can knock him below the stage hes pretty much to you mercy. He can attack you yes but each time after a jump thats height lost so its tricky what to do on his part. If you can't get a Dair in during this time he'll need to use his up-b which all it would take when below the stage is any old attack to send him to his doom.

I guess what I want to say is that Dair is your best friend if you can get him off stage at or below stage level. Other than that SHAD your way to victory!

yeah that works pretty good in most cases, check this vid of a match i had, my friend was using pit while i on the other hand was samus.

lol at 2:47, wall jump to a spike
It's 2008 now, Rickrolling is officially a thing of the past. Get with the times please.

I also have a bad habit of just having to waste my time watching a video of a song I pretty much know the lyrics of by heart now.

As for this match-up again, Pit sucks yes. Samus is one of the very few characters that doesn't have much trouble gimping his recovery though. Best thing you can do to a Pit is force him towards the edge of the screen or below, then force him to blow his upb, then instead of trying to spike or nair him, run off and zair him once really quick. Then get back onto the stage and laugh. If he's higher up and starts to di towards the stage, zair him again. Works like a charm once you get the hang of it and it's much more embarassing to the Pit than being spiked.

i play undr's pit alot, he uploads some vids every so often on youtube. search "jasona" and organize by date. we played some today, so he'll upload some newer vids in a day or two. unfortunately, i rarely win and i don't know how many of my wins are/will be online. so maybe i'm not a good person to give pit advice. check out the vids and let me know if there is anything in them that you think helps

Well after having several problems myself against a Pit player, there are several things that I'd like to address:

1: Hitting Pit with bair is NOT easy. In fact, this was the attack that I could not seem to land at all. I had much, much better luck with dair.

2: Mirror shield. Can become your biggest enemy with charged shot, so be careful. If you plan on using charged shot at all, you better be unpredictable, and not use it too often.

My counter to Arrows (on the ground) is just small charged shots, and spot dodging. Arrows eventually became not a problem to me.

Super Missiles seem near useless, better stick to homing.

A great combo that I came quite fond of using is if you manage to catch Pit in a dtilt, jump up (don't get caught in his dair PUHLEASE) catch him with a uair, (single jump) follow with a mid-air jump, repeat with another uair, then try to follow up with a screw attack. If you are uncomfortable with falling in the state of helplessness, leave out the screw attack, but it racks up pretty good damage, with his really **** helpful against Pit since he isn't going to fall off the stage. :ohwell:

I was able to air dodge pretty much most of his edge guarding techniques, and screw attack seems to be extremely helpful for battering through any incoming air attacks from above, it seemed to catch him offguard everything, especially since it cuts through all attacks. I'm loving ^B again since the 64 days, I thought it sucked hard in Melee. :urg:

I pretty much always grapple through Angel Ring, and If I get caught in it, always DI away from Pit, good god, there's no way you're going to get above him. Sometimes the most useful tactic to preventing it is just by vB, heh, sometimes I could see it coming and would just lay these continuously (like 3 bombs) and it's just a simple annoyance.

That's my advice for now, I'll check back later.

Also, thanks for the zair advice, I didn't even really try too much of that. I'm gonna have to look into it.
