First things first. Unlike in Melee, you can lay her bombs and move across the ground rediculousley fast. I mean really fast. So fast in fact that you can outspeed Marth in what I like to call a "Bomb Retreat" and follow up with HM's (homing missiles) and a charge shot for a KO. I have also found it usefull to use bombs on the ground istead of rolling with Samus.

Another uselfull tidbit. A well placed bomb on the edge RIGHT before your opponent snaps onto it will usually cause them to fall pretty far before they up B again. This works against chars with tethers as well since the bombs are timed.

And just to emphasise the point, bomb explosions have pretty good priority even though they look dinky. They can stop a lot of things if you use them right, plus they have decent stun.

I noticed as well that you can lay bombs repeatedly with no landing lag afterwards. A replacement for rolling sounds interesting, if only you got invincibility frames.

But yeah, the bombs have many uses this time around as they did in melee.

Replace rolling?! Sounds a little too.... hard to consistently do it like you can a roll.

yeah, but rolling is pretty bad anyway, and can get you killed. you might as well use it to replace at least backwards rolling so that at least to get a bomb out of it and no landing lag.

I'm just still getting around why you can't do any moves save back/forth movement out of a bomb jump now, I mean why in the WORLD did they take that away!?[/whining]

okay...well, I've been using them to manipulate my air mobility in certain situations. lol you can use them for mindgames if the other player doesn't realize they can simply walk right past your bomb unharmed.; sometimes that old survival instinct will keep a player from advancing

also, did you know that single bomb jumping is better for horizontal recovery now? try it

Successfully doing a "Bomb-jump" will restore the "Wall-jump" state of Samus. She can air stall FOREVER against a "wall-jump"ing wall.

I'm with gum on the use of bombs as an evasion tool. I often lay a bomb instead of spot dodging even... it really is a good way to move and space yourself:)

Still don't like that they're not proxy anymore. I use them sparingly. But the evasion aspect is good. I've used that before. Good for spacing.

One thing I've been doing recently is to place a bomb, and then stand behind it (So the bomb is between me and my opponent) and spam missiles. When said bomb explodes, place another and move behind it again...it forces you're opponent to have to jump over it, setting you up to attack

another good way to use them as a way to set up a kill is to spot dodge and lay a bomb instead of dsmash or wutever. Wut happens is since it is timed, your opponent will normally:

1) Advance when they see that you didnt counter attackt them after the spot dodge...

2) try to attack you on the spot (another reaction to you not attacking out of your dodge)...

3) respond with their own spot dodge...

again, since the bombs are timed now, they will almost always get hit from any of three above reactions. This stuns them just enough to get a guaranteed charge shot.

You have to be fast, but basically you need to fire the charge shot immediately after the bomb explodes and assume that they got hit by it. If they do, they will get hit by the charge shot. This is a close to midrange strategy. The key thing to remember about using bombs offensively is that they have more priority that almost every attack in the game. They look pitiful, which helps you because people underestimate their usage. They have the ability to interrupt movement and attack animations. Also since they are timed, it is good to not only use them to evade in the air, but rain them down down on an upward advancing opponent. If they get hit in the air, their attack gets interrupted AND they fall. Bombs are the **** basically.

If you're on a spring (custom stage), you can lay bombs about as fast as Olimar plucks Pikmen.

I tried replacing my roll-dodging with the bombs, and it does NOT make for a good substitute. Yes it's slightly faster, but no invincibility frames = never a replacement.

ya this is true making you a open target if your opponent is smart enough to use it as an advantage. it saddens me you cant do attacks outa bomb jump

This is why i said BACK roll only. Your never gonna be successful trying to get behind your opponent with this. THe point is you replace yourself with a bomb and create space moving away from them, instead of rolling back and getting chased and grabbed. at least with the bomb you can DI forward if they try to chase through the bomb.

Uhh, since the bombs aren't proxy anymore, they're not as effective for retreating. And even if you DI forward, you're just going to end up on top of the bomb again and be stuck in the morphball for another useless, vulnerable second.

The only thing that replaces roll dodging is air dodging. Think about it, you're SAMUS!! Airdodges=grapple beam, in case you've never played melee. SH and airdodge immediately, if your opponent chases you, have them eat your zair. R+A=Zair. If you use this to get behind your opponent, your airdodge will end before you touch the ground, so you can get a bair in there as well.
