With Shulk,I discovered that if one jumps on the ropes and uses the counter,you will begin sinking downwards.If timed correctly,you can do the counter almost immediately off the jump,and sink down again,only to jump back up.I did not test how safe from attack you are during this,however.
It works with all who have counters,save Lucario and Palutena.Their counters cause them to float up a bit before sinking,causing delay before landing.It probably is a bit slower/faster with some characters,due to fall speed and all/the way their counter causes them to sink.Greninja had what felt like some notable lag.
It's very difficult to test with the CPU,but it dosen't seem to keep you very safe.However it may be useful for mind-games,as certain characters may find it difficult to approach you if you're bouncing on the ropes,and when they come up you can counter.
It does not work with DK's side-B,sadly.Still at least the ropes can be used to cancel lag on any move,potentially creating combos.However I doubt that is an original thought.
