Rework: "Break The Targets?"

In SSB64 and SSBM, the Target Test was set within a generic construct that contained generic obstacles and traps. If this mode makes a return in Brawl, what could make Target Test better for you? Should it be character specific, the character encountering traps and baddies from their specific games? Would a multiplayer Target Contest (see who can break the most targets) be amusing if it kept the fighting mixed in with the target smashing?

Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed.

Yeah, Break The Targets is nice the way it is.

The competitive idea sounds awesome, though. I wonder how it'd work... Would they take stages from the Break the Target mode, make one or more specifically for multiplayer, or use regular stages?

I wouldn't get your hopes for this, though.

This was suggested by another member, but it'd be awesome (assuming online play will be included for Brawl) if we could compete against one another online in the "Break the Targets!" mode. It'd be a race against time, and your opponent.

As for making the target stages better, I really can't think of anything.
I like how the stages are designed for the specific character alone... not much to change.
Just bring back "Board the Platforms", then it'd be all good.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I suck at BTT and would love to see more variation such as the 2 player competition mode mentioned above.

they should be more specialized in my opinion, for example, on foxes stage have some that can ONLY be taken down with a blaster/shl etc.

Or maybe even a ''Create Your Own'' mode. Like, you can create your own BtT level (kinder like Little Big Planet), then upload it to the net for others to play. That would be sweet.

BTT was good in 64 and in Melee. And what did they have to change to the concept to still make it fun in Melee? Nothing, so I prefer it the way it is.

I think break the targets was fine in all Smash Bros. games, though maybe it'd be a good idea if they gave each character an original looking level that reflects upon each character? Like Mario would get a Mushroom Kingdom looking level, Link would get a level in Hyrule Castle maybe, etc.

Well, most of the levels did have a challenge that would work with a specific character's moves. Like some of Pikachu's targets either needed thunder or quick attack to hit, and Young Link needed to wall bounce his way out and all. So head to head could be balanced unfairly in the favor of a specific character. But I do infact like the idea of adding enemies to the mix. And perhaps a feature that includes the Final Smash as a way to break targets?

Just the way it was works for me. If they had competitive BTT, it would be cool. I see that going two ways.

The first would be where there are a set amount of targets and whoever hits the most wins (but this could be cheap).

The second could be split screen. As one target is broken on one side it adds a target to your enemy. As soon as you are able to destroy all the targets or time runs out, you win.

The second actually sounds more balanced and effective. You should be on tap for Super Smash Brothers DS (Because I can think of like 1,000 people that think a DS Smash would work.)
Anyway, good idea SilentFox.

Who knows, but I thought that'd be pretty cool, although it would abolish BTT as a seperate game mode (maybe).

i can see the first one happening

maybe in some part of subspace (when they board the heliberd seems like a good example)

they are in a maze and they must beat the targets in a time period to escape

Sounds cool, but then that would mean Adventure mode would take over Classic Mode...mehbeh?

I think they should have difficulties for BTT...and not only would more targets appear as you increase the difficulty but you also get time restraints and more obstacles and probably enemies to deal with....that way they can have something for the hardcore fans while still keeping it the same to those who like it how it was previously and then really easy for new people/little kids to get the hang of it...

and a multiplayer break the targets would be interesting.....

maybe they could extra diffuculty levels for bigge challenges.

sounds good, but that might be overkill, it would change it quite a bit.

I have another idea for break the target though. How about you could play break the target on a stage. Instead of only a set amount of targets, you can set a time limit and targets will appear for about 3-6 seconds. I think it would be fun to play on a stage like hyrule temple.

hopefully that will replace the awful coin mode.

I really want better break the targets because me and my cousin beat all of them in under 45 seconds. However there will be more characters this time so I think that should help. Also BOARD THE PLATFORMS FTW!! That stuff was so much fun.

Board the platforms is definately a possibility. Hopefully they will bring it back. They brought the bumper back, so maybe....maybe.....
