Hello folks, I am new here, but I've been lurking around and trying to figure out if anyone has done significant research into the reward system, especially concerning equipment and custom moves.
The feel I get from everyone is that "it is completely random" which, of course, I can't quite accept. If that were true then it would at least be possible to get high level equipment occasionally, right from the very start of the game. This does not seem to be the case.
My Observations:
There seems to be tiers of trophies that become available depending on how many modes you have cleared with different characters. For example, I was missing 5 trophies for an accomplishment, and only got duplicates exclusively. Until I beat classic with a few more characters, then suddenly I was getting new trophies again.
Target Bomb seems to be prone to granting *new* custom moves with it's equipment icon.
Trophy Rush seems to be prone to granting *duplicate* custom moves with it's equipment icon.
The rolling reward ticker in classic seems to rewards based on what stage you are fighting on, while equipment icons on characters seem to like granting equipment for that character.
In Classic, it appears that speed equipment is highly favored over defense or power equipment. I have at least 3x as much speed equipment as any other type, but then again, I haven't played extensively yet.
Difficulty doesn't seem to matter. The first thing I did was beat classic around level 7 or so, and I got more rewards, but I get very similar rewards as when I play level 4 or 5 in co-op.
All-star appears to grant a large amount of equipment, but it consists mostly of random custom moves from character you face. The only difference between hard and medium appears to be the number of rewards you get, hard likes to grant 2 pieces of equipment per match, while medium likes to grant 1, and throws trophies into the mix.
There seems to be tiers of equipment that you unlock depending on accomplishments. Perhaps by having a certain amount of equipment. I had not received any power equipment for my main, but after receiving "high power gloves" I went on to receive two more of them after playing classic twice again, at a difficulty I always played at (with a character who does not use gloves).
I have heard that you should be more likely to get equipment and custom moves for the character you are using, but that doesn't seem to be the case for me at all. Having never used Donkey or Diddy Kong, I somehow have an extensive collection of their moves and equipment, but nothing for Dedede, whom I use extensively.
What are you experiences/observations? Any patterns people have seen?
